    Very heartbreaking story...

Bottom line is that no news source ever followed up and my sister's concern got the better of her and she contacted the hospital in India. She spoke to a doctor there and sadly the prognosis is not good. I do not know all the details, but he said that she might live a couple of years and the grandfather has returned to his village with this baby. I suggested to my sister that she set up a Gofundme account and she will contact the grandfather thru an interpreter as the doctor gave his phone number to my sister. Any other suggestions? Thanks

Good thanks for the advice. I'll contact her and see if she's willing to kick in a few bucks. So kind of you.

    Very sad.
I cannot fathom the kind of person it takes to just toss that life away like garbage.

I bet she will give money, but if you get Sarah Palin to post it on her Facebook, it would be worth much much more.

I'll tell you what. I'll ask her for you. Hook me with the link for the go fund me.

PS before you do, I think you should consider the consequences..... For you I mean.... You're whole political ideology could be completely crushed.... You might even get ptsd......

What are you talking about? And most of all why are even you bringing politics into this?

Its a political forum, everything is politics, here.

When your sister sets up the go fund me account, post it and Ill ask Sarah Palin to post it on her face book.

Shes got millions of followers. If you really wanna help the child, Ill ask Sarah Palin for help, even though youre a progressive.

No, I started the thread in current events because it is not political in nature. You will ask Palin to help a needy baby despite the fact you have labeled me politically? Don't you think that is a weird thing to say considering the nature of the thread? Do what your conscience tells you to do just as my sister and I are going to great lengths to see if we can help this baby regardless of any other issue.

Good for you and I'm sure we can agree that this is an issue everyone can relate to. My sister has bent over backwards to make contact with the hospital and she will be contacting the grandfather as soon as her Indian speaking interpreter is available so that she can get the necessary info to set up the fund.

Sadly, this poor little baby's story will not play out like that fairytale.

Hard to say at this point. I do not see that her lot in life would be significantly different if the mother was feeding her instead of the grandfather. It wasn't like she was tossed in the dumpster. She still has the same health issues either way.

Prolifers would say the parents "put the baby up for adoption," so what they did is ok and assuredly some wonderful parents will adopt this baby. That's how abandoning babies works in their world.

I'm not sure why this is a special case to you? Abandoning babies with severe health issues happens in the USA and all over the world all the time.

Although sometimes certain cases defy the odds, the doctor's in India say that she will not live past a couple of years. She was rejected by ignorant, uneducated parents and it were not for her devoted grandfather, she would have died already because her mother refused to care for her at all. My sister was able to get the grandfather's number from the hospital so that we can try to do something to help. Not sure if they speak a particular dialect yet, but my niece has some friends form India and we will see what we are able to do.

I guess it is up to each individual to decide for themselves whether or not delaying the inevitable is an act of mercy or an act of evil. I still do not see that trashing her parents changes the girls situation one iota.

While this is a very kind thought how safe is donating money ? How wise to donate money to a dying baby? (Or it's family?)

Just in New Delhi the infant mortality rate is 30 per 1000.......lots of babies dying.....how much money would it take to save them all?

And why can't India do it?

I'm not sue how you assume to know what other cases I've been involved with and what difference does it make why this is the one that is being focused on here now? No one person can save the world, but you can try to make a difference one person at a time. It would be wonderful if she were adopted and fully provided for, but maybe her grandfather wants to keep her and maybe he needs some help to enable him to do that.

We've been thinking about this which is why we are going to attempt to do this very carefully. I would not want anything to wind up in the wrong hands. The hospital did treat and test her free of charge, but even if she just has a couple of years, it would still be nice if she had some things that her grandfather cannot afford to give her. My sister and niece have loads of baby things that they put aside for donating anyway...so why not donate them to this baby?

Again, a kind thought.....and if clothes are sent directly to the family that's one thing but money? No.......recipe for scams and disaster.

A friend who had to live in China for a while volunteered at an orphanage. They needed clothes and friends from the states sent them and SHE opened the packages and SHE distributed the items personally....that's about the only way to "save" anyone.

Did you know in this country there are children so poor they don't have a home and don't get enough to eat?

Why is this one Indian baby so important when millions of them die before they're a month old.....?

Because her grandfathers efforts to save her, despite the way her parents and the neighbors shunned her, made him and her just a little bit extra endearing.

Who knows, maybe my next trip will be to Maharashtra to deliver a package. I've certainly done more adventurous things in my life

Well, a trip to an Indian slum would be an eye opener for you (or an American slum) ....and while your kindness is endearing, if impractical, I hope it doesn't end in disappointment...
