Listening to the garbage about the change of PM I heard this statement.

"Everyone knows that sugar is bad for you" ... GARBAGE, sugar is ABSOLUTELY ESENTIAL for life. It is the only way we get the power to run every single thing in our body. It is the fuel of life, it is how the plants package the energy from the sun for us to run.

So is salt, and cholesterol, actually every cell in your body is made primarily of cholesterol

It's too much of these that are bad for us, that is what too much means

What's bad for us, and fattening, is the crazy non-foods we eat in the place of sugar, salt, animal fat.

Since I dropped chemicals(like vegetable oil) and moved to animal products, I've lost weight and I feel better.

60% of an eskimoes diet was/is animal fat. They never had cholesterol problems, we do.

People are fatter than ever but our Grandparents ate the fat off their heavily salted meat and they only ate suger and butter based sweets and baked things.

You can't find cordials that are not "naturally flavoured"(read, chemically flavoured) these days.

And you claimed to be a bio chemist! It is not sugar, which is a common name for sucrose, but glucose that is absolutely essential for life. We don't need sugar, which is just another carbohydrate, our bodies can convert pretty well any carbohydrate into glucose for use as a fuel. We can also burn fat as a fuel and even protein.

Exactly. Every day I see so much bull excreta about what is good for us and what is bad. One of these is the "sugar is poison", this then opens the door for chemical companies to pump petroleum derived sweeteners or worse, naturally derived sweeteners. Then food processing companies increase the fats and oils to increase taste and appearance. So we see these things as beneficial and consume more ....

Faddy things like veganism cause wide problems unless you really make sure you get the essential fats, oils etc from meat. I actually see more "garbage food" labelled as health food.

The grandparents bit I do not agree with, go to any cemetery and look at the older sections and note the ages. We live around 10 years longer then our grandparents and it is not just medical intervention. It is diet and food handling (refrigeration etc) that has changed, but there are side affects. Increased growth and degeneration. We are growing larger frames due to improved nutrition combined with increased intake of hidden sugars, fats and oils combine this with an increased amount of activity needed to burn off excesses, add a pinch of advertising and decreased activity due to technology etc.

Longer life then brings in a plethora of problems due to the rate at which some organs and body systems regenerate. Neural systems in general do not regenerate, aging causing decreased ability in neural processing, smell, taste, hearing, sight, memory. We seem more concerned about the quantity of life rather then the quality of it.

Another problem is miss-information. See my next post.

The point is, we've replaced sugar with poisons.

See this rot is something that someone who really has no more idea about the reality of the situation then some misinformed rot they have read.
I do not claim to be a biochemist, I have though stated that I am a biochemist.

Sugar is what we commonly refer to sucrose as, it is not a common name for sucrose. Sucrose is a sugar, glucose is a sugar, fructose, maltose, lactose and galactose are also sugars. There are really three base sugars, glucose, fructose and galactose, these are monosaccharaides, single molecules.

Sucrose, commonly referred to as just "sugar", is actually 50% glucose and 50% sucrose, a glucose molecule joined to a fructose molecule, maltose is two glucose molecules joined together and a carbohydrate is a string of maltose basically.

The problem is not sugar, it is too much sugar, that is what too much means. Combined with a decrease in activity and we have a world full of chubby people. Saying statements like the one above leads to an increase in sugar consumption as people believe a glucose drink is less fattening then a sucrose drink. If they contain the same amount, then they are the same.

if we consume just enough sucrose to match our energy requirements we won't have an issue. If we consume more we will.
if we consume just enough glucose to match our energy requirements we won't have an issue. If we consume more we will.

What you said in red doesn't make sense really you know. The bit about protein does however, this is called anaerobic metabolism of sugar as it doesn't require oxygen (oxidation). It produces a by-product known as ketones which make urine and sweat smell. The build up of ketones in muscles is what causes muscle pain. This is not the preferred way to get energy. Some body fat is essential for protection, insulation storage of essential metabolites etc.

Our preoccupation with weight is having a good effect, but it is also giving a lot of businesses a licence to print money based on misleading claims.

If we eat what farmers did 150 years ago we live a healthy life. Any processed food from there on was invented to make money, not to make us healthier.
Sugar is bad, we all know it, but so are 1 million other things. We shouldn't listen to the industry. Its them which make us sick.
By the way, when was the last time you had an apple?

A good balanced diet, don't take notice of the so called experts.

1: listen to your body, it will tell you.
If you are thirsty, drink water, anything else is not quenching your thirst, it is reacting to it. I won't go into details, but read up on osmolality.
if you are hungry your body will ask for food, eat crappy food, MacDonalds etc less often, wholesome food, bread, potatoes, green and yellow vegetables more often. Don't cook the crap out of them, but cook them, just enough to break down the cellulose matrix that holds the nutrients, do not boil the goodness out (denature nutrients).
2: When your "NOT HUNGRY", DO NOT EAT. Do not wait until you are full, when you feel full it is because your stomach is distended, it is overfull.
Do not say, "Eat it, don't waste it", if you don't need it, you are wasting it whether you put it in the garbage now, or the toilet a few hours later, it is wasted, except some of it goes to the waist in stead of waste.
Exercise, the most simple exercise is to put one foot in front of the other, shift your weight to that foot and swing the other foot through to the font, again move the centre of balance and weight and again bring the rear foot through past the other, shifting weight etc. Repeat this until you are about a kilometre from home, then about face and repeat the entire process.

You can if you like spend about a thousand or two on hi-tech clothes, wristband monitors, ipods. You can bed your arms at the elbows and wiggle your bum while you do....
    JUST DO IT

sometimes creating something yourself is a most fulfilling activity.

listen to your brain and it's easy.

About 5 hours ago everyone was hungry, I looked in the frig. I took out 2 leeks, 4 potatoes, 500 gram chicken, 2 rashers of bacon.
cubed the potatoes and put them on to boil. Boiled the chicken for about 5 mins in a cup of water, then drained water and retained. Added a squirt of oil to chicken, the bacon and leeks. Added a pinch of mixed herbs, salt and a dash of pepper (to taste) to the chicken water. When chicken, bacon and leeks are cooked add the water and cooked cubed potatoes, half a cup of cream and 2 tablespoons of cornflour.

Eat while hot with crusty bread or eat cold with a salad. Simple, quick, cheap, wholesome.

The American Medical Association finally came out a few years ago with a statement about Fats and Cholesterol that some of us knew to be a fact a long time ago.

Facts are the Cholesterol in the Foods a person eats are NOT the Cholesterol that clogs up a persons arteries.

The Artery Clogging Cholesterol is made by a persons body from such things as any Bread or Food that has Superfine Machine Milled and Processed Flour.....Simple Sugars like Cane Sugar and Candy....High Fructose ANYTHING including Fructose found in Orange Juice and other Fruit Juices and even if a person eats a large amount of any fruit.

Eating Animal Fat's DO NOT CAUSE CHOLESTEROL BUILDUP IN A PERSONS ARTERIES!!!

So I can expect to see you "power walking" around the place (I will just assume that one of the hundreds I see every day is you), headset, nikes, powerband, bum wiggling?

Also there is a direct link specific to being lean, muscular and energetic with people who eat a High Protein and Low Carbohydrate Diet.

And a direct link with Obesity for people who eat a LOW FAT, LOW PROTEIN AND HIGH CARBOHYDRATE DIET!!

Anyone who feels overly sleepy or tired in the morning should simply try eating 2 to 4 EGGS!!!

The Cholesterol in Eggs does not add to a persons Cholesterol in their Arteries but the damn Toast or English Muffin WILL!!!

A person who eats say....3 eggs with some Ham or Bacon along with some Dairy such as Yogurt, a glass of Milk and limits their O.J. intake to only 8 ounces a day and does NOT EAT BREAD....but if they have to eat WHOLE GRAIN BREAD...and make sure it is whole grain as many companies advertise their bread to be 5 GRAIN BREAD and only 1 or 2 of the 5 grains are whole grains.

Oatmeal is fine but again the idea is to primarily eat PROTEIN and GOOD FATS like the Omega Fats in Salmon as a good sized Salmon Steak or Filet has more fat in it than 3 SCOOPS OF ICED CREAM!!! But it is GOOD FAT along with Animal Fat although animal fat is high calorie so I would keep it to a minimum but it will NOT raise a persons Cholesterol levels.

Because of what I do...and I am not a Spring Chicken anymore.....I have to keep my body in top physical conditioning and I am about 6 foot 2 inches and I weigh 239 lbs.

I run every day....6 miles one day and 11 miles the next day and I will run one or sometimes two 20 km. a month.

As well in the summer I swim 1 Mile 3 Times a week...and in the winter I swim a mile at least 1 times sometimes 2 times a week.

I have an extensive weight lifting regiment that is designed to develop and maintain a high level of strength by developing and maintaining MUSCLE DENSITY as I do not lift to gain MUSCLE MASS....like Body Builders who lift low weight amounts many if not hundreds of times a day.

I lift the absolute most weight I can lift with my arms, legs, wrists, toes, fingers...etc....using Free Weights so my reps. are usually 6 to 8 at the most.

This keeps my muscle density high without looking like the Incredible Hulk!! LOL!!!

This causes me to have to eat and eat often and I usually consume anywhere from 4,500 to 6,000 calories a day....and sometimes even more than that.

I eat a lot of eggs, chicken, beef, pork, fish, shell fish, venison, turkey, lamb and I grill most of the time.

I also eat at least 2 yogurts a day and drink Milk as well eat dense cheese but stay away from any soft cheese except Cottage Cheese.

I eat a lot of greens and stay away from Iceberg Lettuce as it has zero nutrition thus I eat Romaine, Mesclun Greens, Spinach, Red and Green Leaf, Kale, Collard Greens, Swiss Chard...etc.

I eat any and all Vegetables as much as I want but remember...a TOMATO is a FRUIT....thus contains a great amount of Fructose thus I limit my fruit intake to no more than 2 pieces of fruit a day.

I will eat Chocolate but NOT CANDY...and for those who are on that ANTIOXIDANT CRAZE....there is about 1000 Times more Antioxidants in a Chocolate Bar than a BASKET FULL of Red and Green Peppers...etc.

I do of course eat Peppers but I try to stay away from Luncheon Meats and I NEVER EAT FAST FOOD!!

I limit my pasta intake and eat whole grain pasta.

But what I primarily eat is LARGE STEAKS whether they are BEEF or SALMON or LAMB CHOPS....etc.

When a person eats a great amount of Protein their bodies Metabolism increases exponentially to the amount of Protein and Exercise they eat and do a day.

Also I take a Multivitamin and Supplements especially things like Chondroitin to prevent joint damage.

Also...a good amount of SEX always brings a persons metabolism up!

All a person needs to do to stay in shape or lose a lot of weight is to briskly walk a minimum of 2 miles at least 4 times a week.

Now I run...I don't walk but I have relatives who were overweight and just by getting them to stop eating bread and pasta and getting them to walk 2 miles every other day one of them lost 50 lbs in a period of only 90 days.

It's all about getting your Metabolism to burn calories and if you eat a lot of Protein and walk every other day at least...a person is going to be burning a lot of calories just sitting or laying down and even when they are sleeping as the body needs to rebuild the muscle that develops tiny tears within it due to exercise.

Excellent post, and exactly right, eggs, meat all sorts but we need some red meat, and not overcooked, yes I know the red looks like blood, it's not, it's the juice of the meat mixed with haemoglobin one of the reasons you need meat.

Yes higher protein diets are the best way to loose weight, but no way is good without exercise. Army, police force, fireman???

Yeah....I only eat my steaks RARE!! LOL!!!

It just irritates the HELL out of me to see a good steak over cooked as for me that's just ruining it!!

I also LOVE Tuna....Sushi Quality either raw or grilled very rare.

I work with the very best the U.S. Military has to offer however I am not Military as I am..."CIVILIAN"....in the manner the quotes denote.

I do go off my diet now and then as everyone needs some Pizza!!!

But I must maintain a well above average level of strength, speed and endurance and as I get older it get's harder.

I usually am in Florida during the winters thus I can continue my running regiment and as I am a Master Diver I have to keep up the swimming as that is not something you want to be weak in doing.

So if I am in Massachusetts for part of a winter I go to a local Boy's and Girl's Club where they have an Olympic sized Pool and do laps.

And I eat like a HORSE!! LOL!!!

People are always asking me..."How can you eat so much and not get fat?"

I tell them...."It's all about WHAT your eating and making sure your metabolism is running high by exercising and taking in Protein."

And there is ONE RULE I ALWAYS FOLLOW!!.....IF IT SAY'S LOW FAT...DON'T EAT IT!!

Most people think when they buy a Salad Dressing that say's LOW FAT that they are doing good by their body.

    THEY ARE NOT!!

ow Fat mean's HIGH CARBS....and if a person looks at the calorie count on a Low Fat Product then looks at the calorie count on a regular product be it salad dressing or yogurt....they will see the LOW FAT version has much more calories.

    Also I NEVER eat margarine.

I always either eat Butter or Olive Oil...but NEVER MARGARINE.
