People should dress as they want to. I'm not worried about a Muslim woman in a burka (as long as she's not driving, can't see how you can see well enough in a burka to drive). She's not going to do terrorist acts, her actions are being observed more. The one to worry about is the European looking Muslim dressing up like the rest of us. Also, are you talking burka or niquab or hijab?

Sounds like Marshall's wants to make a buck. I really doubt they are selling burqas though. I haven't seen a woman in the U.S. in a burqa, but I have seen the other two. Mainly, I see hijabs in the few Muslim women I see around here.

Then you didn't see a burqa, you saw a niquab. Could you at least get things straight?

Trench coats are usually belted, and are not as loosely fitting.

I think of black Muslim burka's like I think of the white Christian kkk outfits as it covers the entire body and the person loses their identity

I do not like either of them, as I am not able to tell who is behind the full body disguise

It has everything to do with the freedoms granted by the constitution, including religious freedom. If you are uncomfortable by other's expression of that freedom, that's on you.

Where can one not wear a cross or star to work? (That would be suppression of religion) Do you have a link to that information?

I agree. I just don't think it's the governments job to regulate it.

I agree, if we allow the kkk outfit, we have to allow Burka's too

BUT, stores, banks, ect.... should be able to ban people wearing full body masks, take off the mask and you may enter....

Interesting. My friend's bank requires we remove sunglasses and hats. I don't have a problem with that. I'm going to agree with you. If a woman chooses to wear garb that conceals her identity, she may not be allowed in places that require security. It's an interesting line, religious freedom and security.

Someone else on here was complaining about that.

Burkas have nothing to do with religious freedom; in a Western country they are a form of intimidation and harassment.

Both are illegal in the state of Alabama. The only time an adult is allowed to wear a mask in Alabama is on Halloween or Mardi Gras. (also, that's not a burqa, it's a niquab)

Private companies can disallow crosses. That said, when I was a public school teacher I wore a crucifix around my neck. It's perfectly legal, as it should be. I feel the same way about Muslim women--they should be able to dress as they wish. I don't want to live in a world where nuns can be required to take off their habits.

Most bombs are concealed in back packs!

Would you also ban blind people?

Well, a devout Muslim woman shouldn't go to those places, anyway.

A burka is no more a provocation than a cross is. It is a religious garment warn by many Muslim women. There is no reason to ban it because some idiots can't follow the law and NOT assault someone.

Again, you are blaming the garment instead of the idiots that can't follow the law.

FYI a trench coat can also conceal, yet you and others aren't calling to ban those so spare us the "safety" reason for banning the burka. This is typical right-wing fear mongering. All the people that assaulted the woman have proven is they are more barbaric and cowards.

The burka is a form of worship to God. Not allowing men to objectify the woman. If you see that as a form of intimidation it speaks to your character, not hers.

BTW...I enjoy men's objectification of my fine form, I wear bikini's. That's my choice, not yours.

If you are "intimidated" by a Burka, you have more issues than the person wearing the Burka. All of a sudden the right-wing nutjobs don't have balls and are intimidated by Burkas. :roflol:

Wearing a burka is akin to wearing a cross. Would you demand that the sale of crosses be banned? I don't think you'll get much sympathy from most Americans.

That's not the whole truth, is it? The french don't permit any garments or masks covering the face in public places, muslim or otherwise.

But I find it interesting that you're holding up France as all places as the example to live by.

I suppose racism knows no borders.

So what you're saying is that you want a person who's been disfigured by acid to be legally forbidden from covering her face?

    That is cruel as (*)(*)(*)(*).

I agree! Those jerks that shot up all those kids in Columbine wore trench coats as did the characters in that anti-government, pro-violence movie The Matrix. They are definitely dangerous.

I am on the left, and if a group of people came in a store wearing them, it would concern me as much as a group wearing a kkk outfit... why, because they are hiding their identity and all look the same

Having grown up in Chicago, I wore ski masks and trench coats. When I walked into a business, I lifted my ski mask and unbuckled my coat (because it's warm inside). I have to say my take on the religious right of the burka wearer has been altered through this discussion. Her right to wear it ends at the door of the business. IMHO

I don't get this. How would you seeing their faces make you less afraid if you don't know who they are anyway? KKK have a stated agenda, people wearing Burkas don't.

Personally, I think they are quite comedic; I especially like the joke about The Muslim beauty contest

    - - - Updated - - -

I also think that if a business states that all customers must have their faces visible then that is their choice.

Except, would anyone know someone like Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, Hassan Izz-Al-Din or Abdul Rahman Yasin by sight?
