Iran, has the lowest age of marriage in the Islamic world and that is 13 for the female and 15 for the male. In most Middle East countries the age of consent for women is 16. Mainstream Islamic jurists/scholars cite the onset of puberty as the age when a woman can marry. The problem with westerners viewing "sharia law" is they often confuse local customs and traditions with what is actually required in Islam
