The only people hurting are those who have taken out loans in foreign currencies, because with the fall in the value of the ruble, it's hard to make the payments. This is true especially with the large business' whose payments run into the billions. So far they managed to pay off the loans, but if Putin wanted to destroy the EU and by extension the US, all he has to do is tell them not to pay.
