well nobody bothers china as well because they have no qualms about using whatever torture against terrorists. No one will really complain about it over there. Its not just the military but the willpower.

We didn't care during WW2, Korea and Vietnam, we shouldn't care now.

I guess already having the most powerful military in the history of mankind isn't enough already. Its not even a remotely close contest with the military of any other nation.

Yes, but they don't want their families to die. The cure to Muslim Jihadism is to target their families. Brutal, but true and effective. Don't believe me, OK. Just ask anyone in Mexico why they don't cross the Cartels.

we only have 10+ year wars because we prefer to fight with 2 hands tied behind our backs and one leg too.

WW2 and Korea were conventional wars against conventional opponents and we lost Vietnam trying to use conventional power against unconventional opponents.

    Not exactly good examples.

Yes. As such, ISIL is a very different opponent than, say, Russia.

ISIL certainly talks about the final battle, but they are working on setting up a government here on earth and are also oriented to building a caliphate on earth.

Will their investment toward a state end up being a useful point in diplomacy - like it is with legitimate states? I doubt it in the near future, at least.

I do think our opposition has to be far more sophisticated than simple military force. The commitment of the local population against ISIL is an absolute requirement.

Perhaps, no Republican is talking about dropping half a million troops anywhere because that All-or-Nothing bull(*)(*)(*)(*) that the Left keeps spouting is completely divorced from reality and necessity. It's that kind of irrational thinking and the false choices that emanate from it that convinced Obama to turn himself into Ali Khamenei's personal hand-puppet:

"The ONLY alternative to capitulation is war!!! We have NO other options!!!"

No one is saying we should abandon our air and sea power. What people are saying - and we should have learned this decades ago - is that relying exclusively on air power doesn't win wars. You were just bringing up World War II - did we win that war by merely bombing the (*)(*)(*)(*) out of the Axis powers?

you can blame the deaths on the terrorists choosing to fight where there are a lot of innocent bystanders.

Then we should accommodate them as quickly and as viciously as possible.

I think the goal is to kill the jihadists who are slaughtering civilians worldwide; not intimidate them.

Obama had less than zero foreign policy or military experience and to Libs, he's the second coming. So you can extend the same courtesy to Trump.

So if a gunman draws a gun in a crowd and I open fire on him with my concealed carry, indiscriminately firing into the crowd with no attempt to limit collateral damage, it's really the gunman's fault if innocent bystanders die?

Yeah, we should have totally let local commanders turn it into WW3 by letting them kill Soviet soldiers in the North with abandon.

I'm not an Obama supporter so no, I don't have to extend any courtesy to Trump.

Sure... If we did there wouldn't be all that penned up tension now. The world would have moved on like it did after ww2.

Who is going to have to foot the bill on this pipe dream of creating the worlds greatest military on earth? The fairy godmother?

in that case your at fault :) but if you multiply the situation in terms of cities I can make enough of a case that the gunman is at fault that people who want to side with us will have the political cover too. Nations and people operate on different principles. For example nations can keep borrowing at a rate a person would not be able to vis a vis their actual income.

im a trump supporter but i think he is wrong in this regard. We do have the strongest military on earth already. We dont need to spend anymore to get it. We do need somebody to make sure they dont fight with both hands tied behind their back.

On another note im surprised that trump gets so much scorn for saying something every other leader from ceasar in the old times to teddy roosvelt has said. Even tony stark said this:/ TONY STARK!

I live about 20 miles from where they build the F-35. I used to work in the defense industry (but not at Lockheed). There is lots and lots of politics involved in system design and construction, both from within the armed services and from the politicians who have their fingers in the process. Actually the biggest problem with the F-35 is the Marine verti-lift version (Marines wanted their own plane designed from ground up to replace the Harrier but DOD and politicians forced this one on them). It was foolish to try to design one airplane to cover all the various kinds of missions this one is supposed to undertake in the first place. Too many inefficiencies built into that approach. Also, when, during the final design and initial production process the system gets loaded up with additional mission requirements and new gee whiz golly bang items not in the original concept, it makes it harder to quickly bring the original concept into a workable condition quickly.

You already have it so what is Trump's point? Hasn't he noticed?

    - - - Updated - - -

The biggest military in the world couldn't have prevented that attack. Acting on intelligence might have done.

I think it has more to do with you being a continent surrounded by large bodies of water to protect you. You don't need a bigger military; it's bloated enough already.
