    1) We already have the biggest military on earth
    2) That did not stop 9/11.

A massive military doesn't stop lone wolf and small terror cells in this country or any other.

That is directed at the military and veterans. Trump peeved off quite a lot of veterans with his comments about our POW's not being good soldiers because they got caught. Now his shindig the night of the debate for wounded warriors and now this is just his attempt to win them back.

Trump is full of hot air, he says and does whatever it takes to win. He has no core values or beliefs. He is out for himself and himself only.

Isn't this basically what we have all thought since WW2?

Harder to speak softly when your not carrying the big stick.

Also, you guys want to see real military power? Wait until we get into another real war like WW2 where our county is ACTUALLY THREATENED. Man oh man, it would be so cool to see the MASSIVE high tech infratsructure and manufactuing capabilities put into war machines.

We would have laser wielding robots in 12 months! JK....

But seriously, WW2 brought on so many technological advances that it was almost daily. Sorry, I digress

That pie graph doesn't include entitlement spending which dwarfs military.

I don't think a foreigner has any place or standing to dare tell us what kind of military we need. And judging by your biased against us anyways I doubt it would be wise to take ANY advice from you about the size of military we should have. If it were up to you we probably wouldn't have much of a military and be forced not to have borders.

So with that out of the way, the USA is not totally surrounded by water. Unless you believe Mexico and Canada are ocean. We, unlike some people, have sketchy borders.

Now if you would find a safe way to make us more like Australia then that would be awesome.

What do you think of this scenario: The biggest blowback to the U.S. ruling class, that is to the bourgeoisie, will be that in order to defeat "communism" they supported jihadists in Afghanistan to draw the Soviets to invade in 1979 which led to the Taliban, Bin Laden, 9-11, Afghanistan war, 2nd Iraq war, Failed economy, ISIS, Republican party implosion and Socialism making its headway into the USA? Bernie Sanders?? Intersting ... Hmmm ...

I already addressed that and posted the graph that does contain both Social Security and Medicare on page 5 post #49. There was no attempt to distort government spending.

WRONG WRONG WRONG you are .... The US supported the Afghan insurgents only after the Soviet.russians invaded Afghanistan. The Soviet.russian invaded because they were afraid that the rising Muslimism in Afghanstan would infect the millions of historical Muslims in the RFSSR (Moskal Russian republic) and all of the Stans.... in the USSR. That is what you get when you are a colonial power you fear those who you oppress for they shall rise up someday and bite your butt.

If I were the president, I could stop terrorist attacks against the United States in a few days. Permanently. I would first apologize to all the widows and orphans, the tortured and impoverished, and all the many millions of other victims of American imperialism. Then I would announce, in all sincerity, to every corner of the world, that America's global interventions have come to an end, and inform Israel that it is no longer the 51st state of the USA but now -- oddly enough -- a foreign country. I would then reduce the military budget by at least 90% and use the savings to pay reparations to the victims. There would be more than enough money. One year's military budget of 330 billion dollars is equal to more than $18,000 an hour for every hour since Jesus Christ was born. That's what I'd do on my first three days in the White House. On the fourth day, I'd be assassinated. --- William Blum, Rogue State: A Guide to the World's Only Superpower

“Rogue State forcibly reminds us of Vice President Agnew’s immortal line: ‘The United States, for all its faults, is still the greatest nation in the country’.” [sic] – Gore Vidal, author, The Decline and Fall of the American Empire

Get rid of a few useless government agencies that consist of cubicle dwellers that do absolutely nothing useful and provide zero goods or services to the economy. That'll free up billions of dollars right away.

Too harsh? Fine, no new cube dweller hires, eventually they'll retire (we'll keep paying their pensions though, isn't that wonderful?) And we can shut the doors on those money sucking leeches.

BS. We have big government morons handling the budget who don't care about being price gouged by contractors that build the hardware the military uses.

A bit of oversight on how much things cost could/would reduce the waste in no time.

It's one of the few good things I could see Trump doing, he'd end the overpaying for crappy products.

I would personally start with the EPA.

I was talking about not hiring any new useless employees that are a drain on our tax dollars. The Democrat party of today consists of mostly unemployed pajama boy snowflakes that wouldn't be affected.

    Hmmm...

Grow the size of the Military: People who work hard enriching themselves and their community and who safeguard our freedoms.

    ...or...

Grow the size of the Federal Government: People who sit on their asses demanding more money for being inefficient and who destroy our freedoms.

    Tough choice, tough choice.

Russ, do you honestly think that the government will completely "get rid" of a few "useless" government agencies??? Even if through some miracle they accomplished that near-impossible feat, while that may free up "billions", what happens when the billions are spent?? Can I have whatever you are smoking?

It's not too harsh, but it's un-realistic even if you won't admit it. And you get to keep your pension, why shouldn't they after all they've paid into it. Money sucking leeches eh? With that attitude no wonder there are unions in this country.

Make you like Australia? That would involve America being a decent, peace-loving and prosperous nation which doesn't vote for feckless reality show hosts for president.

I have the book (Blum's) here and it's something all Americans should read-unless the truth is a scary and strange world for them which they would prefer to avoid visiting.

I know full well it'll never happen. Reducing the overhead of government is nearly impossible.

You want to know my frustration? It's the " non essential " government employees who bi*ch and whine when they are furloughed during a "gov shutdown" knowing full well they will get their back pay and are in reality getting a free unscheduled vacation.

I make my money in the evil private sector where "non essential employees" don't exist. Why? Because we actually have to make a profit and perform with efficiency. When there's a layoff, your job isn't held for you with backpay waiting upon your return to work.

Yet we, the taxpayers are paying a bunch of useless cube dwellers to push papers that do nothing to help the very businesses and employees of those businesses who pay their salaries/pensions.

Now do you somewhat understand my point?

Nope, as in totally surrounded by ocean so it would be much easier to control what goes on around us, or rather have an easier time keeping people out that shouldn't be here.

its a question of geographical advantage.
