UN Torture Report Condemns US Government As The Leading Violator Of Human Rights

Refusal to prosecute officials who engage in or sanction torture of prisoners

Detaining prisoners indefinitely without trial or other judicial proceeding, or any hope of release

Kidnapping individuals overseas and torturing them in secret prisons

Approving a manual for interrogation of prisoners that includes methods classified as torture under the Geneva Conventions

Imprisoning immigrants under degrading conditions and refusing to acknowledge their claims as refugees fleeing persecution

Imposing the death penalty on hundreds of prisoners, many of them from oppressed racial and ethnic minorities, many of them demonstrably innocent or unfairly tried

Widespread use of solitary confinement, considered a form of torture, at all levels of the prison system

Severe abuse of juveniles, pregnant women and other vulnerable groups both in police custody and in prisons

Maintaining a regime of police violence, particularly against young men from racial and ethnic minorities, and refusing to restrain or punish police who kill, wound or torture

It will not come as any surprise to readers of the WSWS that the country named is not China, or Russia, or Iran, or some other target of the American ruling class, but the US itself. The government that claims the right to bully, blockade, and attack any country in the world in the name of “human rights” and “democracy” is guilty of the most heinous crimes.

So, is that news to anyone here?
The US is also the biggest hypocrite in the world! They condemn so many other States and dictators, yet they got enough dirt in front of their own door.
    Power corrupts, I think.

Only recently, ex president Bush said he did not sorry he had started Iraq war. Cheney adamantly defended his interrogation techniques (tortures). None of them was investigated for war crimes or crimes against humanity.

UN struggle to reclaim at least tiny bit of power, it should have, and escape same fate as League of Nations.
At least, someone remember, what happens, when intergovernmental organization, whose principal mission was to maintain world peace, fails.

This is true. It seems UN is loosing its original clout after WWII. We had great presidents then. Communism was looming and USSR was keeping the world at the edge, but UN was a very important tool for keeping peace. Now, when we have amateurish jerks as presidents and Communism in Russia collapsed, the world is in chaos and threat of WWIII is real.. .

Leading Democrats were briefed on it by the CIA and approved of it. Ever wonder why Obama's DOJ never pursued this? Now you know.

Do you think the truth is going to sway the American public? Not a chance. They stomp our rights and steal our land and the brainwashed media cowtowing publick says rebellion is wrong. Selling guns to murdering drug cartels , not a problem. Dropping bombs on hospitols ? What was that the popcorn is done? Abu Gharib torture? Huh did you say something? Nothing , nothing at all there is no pulse on the American public. Dead to the world , can't see farther than there smart phone.

I blame dumbing down! But then when you only have a bunch of rich and bored attention-seeking losers to vote for, what do we expect? There's a film called Idiocracy, and there are many similarities with today's societies and politics; watching it should be made compulsory in all western countries.

Seen the movie. The movie is in idiot language. Yet idiots have not seen it , or learned from it. Passed off as stupid comedy , not social commentary. Should be shown to school kids every year at least along with 1984, Brave New World and a few others. Got to brainwash these kids into thinking different about government. (See quote below)

The U.N. is filled with third world dictators that massacre their own populations. It's a joke.

Does North Korea lead their human rights commission? Do they still have a statue of Idi Amin?
