CNN interviewed republican voters after the polls closed in South Carolina. And there were more than a few that said they would rather vote for Bernie or the Shrill than for Trump, because he's such a moron.

Cons might be able to see that it's a three man race now in the GOP. So if they're able to smell the coffee, and realize that Trump is going to win unless they start voting to get him out, will they go with the other nut job, or will they try to get the "establishment" candidate to represent them?

Trump is a guaranteed loser in the general. Do the cons really want to risk the SCOTUS pick, on Trump?

Well of that we're to happen it would break from historical voting patterns in a big, big way. The more likely scenario is that people would simply stay home. By the way, interviews are not considered scientific polling with any degree of accuracy.

Talk now is cheap. If the general election is Hillary vs Donald -- repubs and dems will see the difference and vote for Trump.

Everything about this cycle breaks with historical patterns.

The question boils down to who is your second choice. A lot of Trump voters have been on the sidelines or never voted at all, so they aren't use to the idea of a second choice. But poll after poll show a significant portion of Trump voters do indeed say Bernie is their second choice. The concensus view is the Trump voters are rabid anti-establishment and they view both Trump and Sanders as anti-establishment. These voters do not seem particularly policy driven, just a Throw The Bums Out crowd.

Well, I'm planning to vote for Trump in the general election over either Bernie or Hillary.

    And I'm a Democrat.

And I'm not a new voter, I vote in every election.

If it's one thing I'm learning about this election year, it's that I can't predict anything.

But if you're so sure Trump is a guaranteed loser in the general, who do you think can beat Hillary?

Trump's going to tone it down if he locks up the nomination and start appealing to other groups.

I do not see how Trump could lose in the general against Clinton Woman or the self proclaimed Socialista. Hilary is hated by Republicans and not liked by a good segment of Democrats. She is damaged goods. Where there was not enough real things to hate her about many in the GOP just made up stuff like Benghazi. Many of the GOP made believe that Democrats were socialists so now they have a real one to hate so why would any self respecting Republican vote for a real socialist ?

You, the media, and a lot of political pundits have been wrong about Trump for a long time. It's time to wake up and admit what's happening.

Trump has the highest unfavorable ratings among Republicans and Republicans only at 34%. Independents don't like him either giving Trump between a 60-64% unfavorable rating. Hillary isn't far behind among independents only either, depending on the poll between 56-60%. Hillary's unfavorable rating among Democrats is at 22%. That is high, but a lot lower than Trump's 34% among Republicans.

I doubt many Democrats will vote for Trump or Republicans for Hillary, staying home is a better option. In fact among independents only when asked whom they would vote for in a Trump vs. Hillary match up in November, 20% stated they would not vote or vote third party. Keep in mind folks usually do not vote for someone they dislike.

I fully expect to see less than 50% of the eligible voters vote this November if the choices are between Hillary and Trump. What amazes me is that the two parties do not seem to realize how much those two candidates are disdained by all who are not members of the two major parties.

the question is whether the gop will admit what's happening. they have the capacity to shove one of their establishment candidates down the voters' throats, but that's a dangerous game to play.

I think people, or those for the part, are starting to come to down to earth. The euphoria they were experiencing with Trump is wearing off, and they are ready to take the next President seriously. I honestly can't see a feasible reason why any voter, unless they're trolling, will vote for Trump. I really wish cons would stop trying to compare Trump to Reagan. There's no one as downright repulsive, and self centered as Trump, that I can think of.

The recent polls I've seen show Trump winning the general, so why should I care what some SC voters say?

Hillary is having a hard time beating Bernie. Trump could pull out a landslide against her.

There was nothing extremist at all in that reply other than extremism in -your- reply to it above. The closest parallel to the current field is Perot in 92, who put Clinton in the WH over GHWB. The differences are that Perot ran third party and dropped out and reentered. Dropping out and reentering should have been the death of him entirely for any rational voter, but he still pulled lots of votes. He was consistently and purposefully underestimated by MSM polls, just as Trump is today. I doubt you know or remember this since you are LW, so look it up or google it. I have no idea who will win either party's nomination or the WH, but am very confident in the limitations of polls other than -post election- polls.

The majority see Hillary as untrustworthy.

New Poll Shows 60% of Americans Think Hillary Clinton is Untrustworthy and Dishonest

    Hillary can't win.

BS. It doesn't really matter who is at the helm. Image is important, but political policy is more so. The republican values cannot be replaced by democratic ones just because you don't like the figurehead IMO.

They poll something like 20% of Dems will, the blue collar types. For mine Trump is the closest to a real conservative we've seen, its always been about creating opportunity for the middle class and organic wage growth. Open borders, millions of H1Bs and bad trade deals weaken the middle class which is anything but conservative. Employed people tend to want lower taxes, less govt and are self reliant - teach a person to fish.... If Trump gets over the GOPe traitors he'll be President.

Poll: 20% of Dems would defect for Trump
