use a half of sick day which would it be?

I originally scheduled my doctor appt for 2/15 and had no idea it was a holiday so I had to reschedule my appt. So I chose to use my sick day where I can go to work and leave early. Why would anyone want to be sitting in a doctor's office on a holiday???

Isn't that what sick time is supposed to be used for? A holiday is for you to do whatever you want to do that is connected to enjoyment which does not fall in the category of going to the doctor.

IDK, I have worked through sickness... I would certainly have worked the holiday (depending which one it was) because if you're paid hourly you make 1.5x your salary that day... In short - if you make 10 bucks an hour you will make 15 on a holiday...

If you're super sick then go get treatment, if not work it...

I had strep throat for nearly 2 weeks and I worked through that, then I had to go to the hospital because I couldn't take it anymore.... But if your appointment is not big deal then work and schedule your appointment for another day...

You sound like a person that I would not want to hire.

Depends on why you need to go the doctor. It is not uncommon for people to drag their ill bodies all through the workspace and use their sick days as vacation days though.

It depends on your contract and relevant local laws but generally work sick days are for times when you're incapable of working due to your illness or there is some level of medical urgency. If the reason for your appointment is minor enough for you to feel free to reschedule it to a later date, I'd suggests it's the kind of thing you should be doing in your own time.

Most employers and managers I've worked for have been quite flexible about things like hospital appointments with late starts/early finishes/long lunch breaks to fit them in and though you'd generally be expected to cover the missed hours, as long as you're work is getting done nobody is going to be counting. If you're going to go out of your way to make your appointments during working hours (especially to the extent you're talking about), I don't think you're meeting your end of the bargain from a social/moral point of view.

If you have a serious medical issue that requires several appts then I guess in that case you will go to the doctor on a holiday

Well, depends on my plans for the time. I don't have sick days, I just have PTO days (can use the days for anything). I'd rather use a few hours of my holiday (unless I had major plans to use the long weekend) for the doctor, than to use PTO time for the doctor. That said, if I still had sick days, I'd use the sick day time.
