I have been thinking, does the US spread a message of hope among its citizens? No matter which political party you belong to or what your political philosophy is, is there hope for future generations? Some might say it depends on who controls political offices. This however is not what brings people together and fight for the future prosperity of this nation. All we talk about is how this nation is changing. But, is the change a message of hope for the future? My feelings on the matter is change will happen but we should work hard as a nation to bring prosperity to our people. We as citizens of this nation walk through a mine field of laws, we have become so sensitive to the feelings of everyone, technology is developing into a communications nightmare because we can no longer trust social media to be helpful as a means of learning what is important, we value the opinions of celebrities over those who are in a position of true knowledge, drugs are becoming acceptable and are diverting the minds of so many away from what's important, and the acquisition of money has become more difficult due to a fast growing population. Call me old fashioned but true hope for this nation is dependent on the Christian message of love for each other. Now, I'm not Christian but I see the need for the teachings of how one should live their life. I was brought up in a Christian family and to a certain extent I am following Christian principles in my every day life. Is it just me or does anyone else see the need to learn the principles of Christianity? Our political leaders state they are Christian but are so scared to promote Christian philosophy. The media attacks those political leaders that say they will lead with the principles they learned in Christianity. Can we be prosperous as a nation without hope that each citizen can succeed if they follow the principles of Christianity?
RPA wrote: Morality is the 'glue' that holds societies and civilizations together. Granny says, "Dat's right... ... an' dey ain't nothin' moral... ... `bout the gay agenda."
it was over years ago, this country is a dead man walking, we're just hoping for an extension w Sanders for an extra century but we're done and it all happened on our watch
Morality is important but where do the morals of this nation lie? Is it not Christianity? Should we not support that which has made us great?
In America, morality is anchored in Judeo-Christian values and philosophy. The Founders cited a 'Creator' who grants US our rights. This is an obvious allusion to the Christian God most of them were raised to believe in however, they didn't want a State church (like the one they fled) so they said our rights come from a 'Creator' and made our Consitution secular but, based on the values they believed in and were raised with. These morals and values were assumed. Today, with the rise of atheism and secular humanism, there is no longer an assumed and agreed upon moral code and therefore the Constitution can become meaningless and subject to re-interpretation by moral relativists.
All that I have heard Sanders say is what he believes is important in the political arena. They say nothing of our moral foundation and how to preserve it for future generations. Political leaders are afraid of expressing their religious beliefs. This job must be up to the citizens. Or, it might be a downward spiral.
If you followed Christian principles you would know that hope is a myth, a human construct developed by those who have nothing else to rely on. Atheist often accuse Christians of believing in a fairy tale but they do the same thing with hope. As Christians we know what is coming we do not have to rely on some random roll of the dice. To your original point of will the nation get better it is irrelevant to those who follow Christian principles. It may get better or it may get worse but we realize that in the end it doesn't matter because it is following gods plan. We can try and change it, and we do, but we have no expectations and certainly do not waste time hoping it gets better.
I may not have faith in the bible but I do have faith that Christians can get their act together and start fighting for the future of this country.
Political leaders are political leaders, not ministers. When you vote you are hiring a manager. You determine your objectives, and hire the manager most likely to achieve them. The task of maintaining the moral foundation of a country does not fall to an executive, it remains with the people. Not so long ago, political candidates did not find it necessary to constantly mention religion. This was never true of Eisenhower or Nixon. This is what I say: let your religious principles inform your conscience. Let your conscience be your guide to correct actions. Your actions will tell everyone what they need to know of your character. It is not necessary to speak too loudly or too long of your faith - you don't want to be confused with the cynics who do so out of personal ambition.
I do believe what you say is true but where are the morals in a politicians life. All they do is lie and squabble about the other parties problems. Should they not live a moral working life also. We are being split apart with tolerance of every other culture but our culture is being lost. Take social media for example, it is filled with idiotic rants of those who have obviously lost any morality as it pertains to the prosperity of this country. It is a Christians responsibility to promote their religion and I myself will help by promoting Christian morals.
I agree. I don't think this planet will be habitable within 50 - 75 years. If it is it will be a hell hole--not worth living in. I don't have much hope. My children are 30 and 28. They aren't having children of their own. I am hopeful that my family line will disappear before the world gets too much uglier.
Satan has never felt more welcomed anywhere than in the bosom of the self described US rightwing Christian. You can easily spot it in the prideful waffling about how they adhere to Christian principles whilst spewing open sewers of bigotry, gossip, and maliciousness from their pinched, pencil thin mouths.
