heh stories like this remind me when people are able to live off others, they often contribute far less than they would if they only depended on themselves... I mean we have countless examples of this in life... in fact one of my FAVORITE experiments is whats been called the "marshmallow experiment" where we tell kids they can have this ONE marshmallow now, or if they wait 15min they can have TWO marshmallows... and its just amazing how they have tracked some of these kids decades later, and found out the ones who ate the one marshmallow right away, did far less better than the kids who waited for the second one... I mean this one measurement can be used on 5 year olds to determine the outcome of their life... what an amazing experiment...

this single reason, is why todays instant gratification culture worries me immensely... we're raising an entire generation with no ability to pass this test... the future is bleak...

P.S. and to make a clear point, its not just the children alone, as if its some mental condition, its a LEARNED trait because the adults in their life constantly let them down... so they learned to gratify themselves while they could, because the adult won't keep their promise... thats why you never tell a kid "just a minute" and then its 10min later... they just learned to eat the marshmallow in the future, don't teach them this... keep your promises, follow through, or else you will be raising the future problems of society...

P.S.S. and just to make this more political... its why bills introduced or passed by liberals that seek immediate gratification instead of long-term solutions infuriate me... they are only looking for today, and couldn't care less about tomorrow, I mean we've all had the huge debates on this website that included the phrase "we have to pass it to find out whats in it" or "we will fix the problems later, but we have to pass it now"... dejavu guys... deeeeeee jaaaaaaaa vuuuuuu....

I will give you a true story. In 1949 we had a high school boy/man that was a bully in school. He claimed he was afraid of anything and more so the other boys in school was afraid he was dangerous to be around. I joined the US Navy after high school and my mother wrote Harold (that was his real first name) had joined the US Marines. Later she wrote that Harold refused to carry a "piece", aka a M1 Carbine rifle, as he didn't believe in fighting a war... That was the Korean War we were in. So, the Marines told him he had no choice...either fight as a Marine or we have another place you will not like. Mom wrote Harold was sent to the brig at Mares Island, Ca for four years. Old Harold returned home in 1954 with a mental mind of a six year old.

'Ole Beak-Nik Bernie didn't learn anything also at the Hippie compound, he still acts like a hippie.

 

I can actually see this being a core attack on Bernie if Hillary gets recommended for indictment and he becomes the nominee following a switch of the pledged delegate's support. Bernie just isn't serious enough to be engaged with in a serious way much of the time.

 

Take it up with the doctor that said he shouldn't serve.

Civilian Public Service was disbanded in 1947. By the early 1950s a replacement program, 1-W service, was in place for conscientious objectors classified as 1-W by Selective Service. The new program eliminated the base camps of CPS and provided wages for the men.

1-W service was divided into several categories. The Earning Service involved working in institutions such as hospitals for fairly good wages. Voluntary Service was nonpaying work done in similar institutions, mostly within North America. Pax Service was a nonpaying alternative with assignments overseas. 1-W Mission Supporting Service was like the Earning Service but the wages were used for the support of mission, relief or service projects of the draftees choice. The nonpaying services were promoted by church agencies as a sacrifice to enhance the peace witness of conscientious objectors.[94]

I served beside many COs and there was never a thought of putting them in prison. Most were simply given specialties in the Medical Corps. If he enlisted in the Marines and then decided her did not wish to be in combat, they would've simply discharged him for Less Than Honorable Reasons. (An ex-personnel sergeant speaking)

Signing up as a conscientious objector takes a whole lot more personal courage than buying a doctor!

 

Did Cruz serve in the military. Did Bush? Face it, military service long ago stopped being a requirement to be President if it ever was.

 

Over the past 62 years at High School reunions, I have talked to Harold Eastland about his life in the Marines and afterwards. Yes, he did spend the four years in prison for failure to live up to the qualifications as a Us Marine. He went AWOL for three months and assaulted a Marine officer and was sentenced to four years to Mares Island, Ca prison. So, don't give me your lip how you somehow know the story isn't true.

 

You just showed that his brig time wasn't for being a CO but outright misconduct - and stupidity.

 

No one bought a doctor, doctor's make a nice income, and there is nothing more cowardly than signing up as a conscientious objector.

Sanders is a disgrace.

 

Not one single candidate has any military experience. Kind of a stupid thing to bring up at this point as we know all the candidates are cowards.
