What's your take on U2's music and American understanding of it?

Love U2. Rattle and Hum is my favorite musical documentary. Have you seen it?

I've seen a few bits and pieces of music documentary about U2. I know their music well, I graduated in 94 so The Edge and Bono are etched in my mind forever. It wasn't until way later that I was aware their music had a lot of depth I won't even pretend to understand. Through my personal exposure, I assume England and Ireland have had a long history of tension. I saw Braveheart, In the Name of the Father, Elizabeth, read history books and took college classes...but I have no idea what relations in the UK are or have been in my life or outside a history lesson. I am very curious about it. Curious about any, if at all Protestant/Catholic issues that may or may not presently exist.
With or Without is my favorite U2 song but I have never heard a song by them I didn't like. They aren't nearly the music gods now as they were in the 90's in the US.

Yeah, the music dropped off some time ago. That's okay. They were one of the few serious bands in the '80s and '90s. Legendary. Rattle and Hum takes place in the US. They do a song with B.B. King and sing "still haven't found what I'm looking for" with a gospel choir in a Harlem church. Amazing performances and storytelling. Amazing tour. Netflix. You need to watch it.

    I'm hilarious.
What is your preferred technogadet, favorite app/why, and why would someone opt for Straight Talk or Sprint?

Nobody can successfully pull off a culture they don't have significant background or understanding of for long. It has nothing to do with intellect or education... I have lived in the US all my life and I couldn't convincingly charade as an American from another region in the US.
This forum has also made me very aware of how little people outside of the US understand our technology or the significant place it has in our culture.

Take a chill pill bro. Judge people by like, the content of there character, n stuff. Not by like, the length of their hair.

Not as simple as what I do. My wife buzzes my hair about every 6 weeks. I simply wash my hair. No need to brush, comb or tie back.

From what I have read about him--in his own words--the infamous High Times interview of him. We don't need somebody who has publicly claimed that he defecated/urinated on himself as a way to get out of the draft, even if that turned out to be a lie he said during the interview. The fact that he thought it was a good story to tell is enough.

Yeah you're right - mullets should be the only hair over an inch long tolerated on real men. That and back hairs, obviously.

Thank you both for good posts, being on topic, and not asking any invasive personal questions! How refreshing!

Yup, this long haired guy certainly is "un-Godly and un-Christian" as well as a "hippie" and a "communist".

The only thing un-American here is this question and your attitude towards it.

You want to sit here and tell people to fall in line rank and file and that feels American to you?

You know who else doesn't like long hair? North Korea.

Perhaps you live in the wrong country or perhaps you just have no idea what you're talking about?
