Why yes, you can have the first without the second. Indeed, if someone says white people are superior to all other races, that is racism, and it fits the first description you presented. However, it also fits the second definition you presented, because the second definition is the broader definition. However, when consulting a dictionary, we don't stop at the first definition and stop, as all of the other definitions are equally valid.

Let me try to explain in this short one act play starring Sylvester Stallone, and Helen Mirren:

Sly: What color was the cat you lost Helen?

    Helen: She is orange.

Sly: Duuhhh...Orange. That can't be right. The dictionary definition of orange says that orange is a round juicy citrus fruit with a tough bright reddish-yellow rind.

Helen: Silly Sylvester. When reading the dictionary, you don't just stop at the first entry but look at all the entries. If you look down to the fourth entry in the dictionary, you'll see that orange is also a color. And my cat is orange.

    End scene.

    So, back to our statement:

"You must like fried chicken and watermelon because you're black."

    Is this racism? Let's look:

1 Prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior.

I see what you're saying, it doesn't make one race look more or less superior. But let's look at the next definition:

1.1 The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races

Now, this definition is broader, and actually includes the first definition. Based on this definition, does the phrase fit the definition of racism? Yes, it does. Does that make it racism just as much the first would have? Yes, it does.

Just as a drug requires a physiological effect to be taken for narcotic or stimulant effects.

Racism requires the belief that ones own race is superior.

Saying something like all whites, blacks, Hispanics, etc. want LOVE is not a racist.

But buy your definition. It would be.

Are you saying that Asians, Indians, Arabs and Native Americans do not want love? That's racist again. Why do you think it is that Asians, Indians, Arabs and Native Americans are so hateful and devoid of love? Or perhaps you're not suggesting that their need for love is not due to their race, but to the human condition?

You should read that definition thoroughly.

No they want hate. Now I guess I'm being racist against blacks, whites and Latinos. Assuming they don't want hate.

Nope. Just generally racist. You don't see that? My point is that you don't have to be for or against a race to be racist. You just have to assume characteristics about people because of race.

No I don't agree. Because saying something like all blacks want peace, is not assuming other races don't want peace simply that all blacks do.

Lets go down this rabbit hole shall we?

Asian people are the smartest people in the room.

    Is that statement racist?

I have no reason to define the "black race". It doesn't matter.

I've not heard dumb Polak jokes to be honest. I've heard dumb redneck jokes.

So why do you assume that all blacks want peace? Have you talked to them all? How do we determine such a thing? What makes Native Americans different from African Americans that you can't make the same assumption about them?

It could potentially be a factual statement. If you gave a room of 20 people an IQ test and the only two Asian people happened to get the two highest scores. However, it would be a more accurate assessment to say that the smartest people in the room are Asian, as you'd be dividing people by their objective intelligence, not by race.

It does matter. For your idea of racism to work you have to categorize the race. Meaning you your self are a racist.

Simply someone who says I am white or I am black. Are in fact being racist.

No, only you have to categorize race for racism to exist.

But that's not what I'm saying. There is no reasonable way for me to define "black people". I'm not prepared to say "in order to be black, you must have a skin tone of x". I mean, clearly there are people who obviously have black skin. Great. But what about people where it's not so easy? Celebrities like Trevor Noah, Lisa Bonet, Nicole Richie, Paris Jackson, or Slash come to mind. Do I create a definition that either includes them or excludes them? Why? What difference does it make? The only reason I would do this is to very simply divide the world into black people, and white people, and Asian people, and Hispanic people, and so on and so forth. I don't need to do that. If you do, then there's our problem.

You should probably try to come to grips with a simple fact: We're all a racist sometime. It's whether we're going to be a racist all the time that matters.

No, that's simple identification. It doesn't assume traits or characteristics based on being black or white.

I already did remember? Racism is the belief in race.

The theory of racism is began in the began in the 20th century and is based on the idea that one race is superior or inferior to another. That is all.

The rest is bull(*)(*)(*)(*) social nonsense.

Saying I am white assumes I am member of the white race. Which means I share in inherent characteristics/culture/beliefs with others.

You cannot define a "race" with out making some assumptions.

She's being racist. Right-wingers love to mock the idea of political correctness, but the moment someone dares to make fun of their religion, they whine.

    Such hypocrisy.

Really? What are these inherent characteristics, beliefs and culture which the "white race" all share to the exclusivity of all others?

You cannot define a "race" with out making some assumptions.

Great. Why don't you define the black race for us? Then tell us whether Trevor Noah, Lisa Bonet, Paris Jackson, Slash, and Nicole Richie fit into it or not?

But, it doesn't matter how they identify. What matters is whether they are part of the "black race". Once you tell us your definition of the "black race" we can ascertain whether these people fit into that definition or not. How they identify is of no consequence.

Once you post your definition of "black race" we can get under way.

I cannot define black. I hate that it has become the preferred term to identify anyone It's not really a race. I could say someone with african decendent from but we all are from Africa if you go back far enough and that may not be the criteria an individual uses to define themselves.

I identify as caucasian or white as it is defined the the dictonary. What I have in common with all others who I identify as Caucasian is that we all share a decndent from what we currently call Europe. More specifically the Caucasus region of europe. Someone who Identifys as another race may share a decndent from Europe and identify with another race.

However if American was a race that's how I would identify. Because I have much more in other Americans then any other group.

See? neither can I. Do you deny that racism exists?

Very true. So when I say all black people are x, how likely is it that it would be true?

Tell me more? Are whites al covetous? Do they all like fried chicken and watermelon? Are they always the smartest people in the room? Do they all like Adele? Tell me about your hegemonous white culture.

I'm confident it's a nationality. What do you have in common with Americans that you don't have in common with the British? Or Mexican? Or Canadians? Or the Chinese?

Sharing a culture is not needed to define a race. You were all about the dictonary before now you seem to completely ignore it and make your own (*)(*)(*)(*) up.
