Maybe she belonged to the KKK or something. I was brought up to treat EVERYONE the way I want to be treated. If they don't reciprocate, treat them the way they treat me.

 

This is my suspicion as well. I figured if I threw that out there and was wrong, someone would dig it up and toss it in my face. That didnt happen so I'm going to go with my first suspicions.

Well, with todays strife between the races, it very well could have cost her and her 3 kids everything if she went into the wrong stetches of neighborhood at the wrong time.

Not sure I'd risk it while having 3 mouths depending on me at home just to feel good about myself.

I and my family do not ask for nor do we receive special consideration and to think that we need it is the most insulting thing of all.

Oh I do, also originally from Los Angeles so I know about that as well. Memphis is 66% black but I still can't find black America on a map anywhere.

What provoked you to move to Memphis from LA?

 

I know, I'm just being a smart ass because I'm sick of all these divisive terms. We need to start acting like one nation before we fall like Babylon.

But anyways yeah been to Graceland a hand full of times, haven't been in many years though. Came here for a job opportunity I couldn't refuse right before I turned 19 and have been here since. Don't think I'll ever move back to LA, but I don't want to stay in memphis either lol.

 

I don't foresee America crashing and burning anytime soon. The US has been in constant evolution from the start. Americans will decide our future, good or bad.
LA to Memphis...was that a culture shock?

Yeah culture shock as far as slower pace of living, not much to really do and to be honest it's much more culturally diverse . I used to think that the southerners had no idea what real diversity is like but now I find it quite the opposite and also notice that west coast folks are very out of touch with reality.

 

What are the biggest differences you see?

 

The furthest west I have been is Colorado and Utah. The landscape is remarkably different. The snow falls from October to May. There's no southern hospitality, humidity, or sweet tea. Cost of living is substantially higher. Wild game is all over the place. And they love a southern accent. They also have hard water.

 

It doesn't look like we will be acting as one nation anytime soon.

My mom lives in Memphis...we moved around a lot ( my dad seemed to always be in charge of opening something new in another state) last place they lived before he passed was Memphis. Now she's stuck there lol. Hopefully she will be back in the PNW by the end of summer.
The only thing I really like about Memphis is the Peabody ducks. Graceland was "eh".
Lots of racial tension in that city.... very different than Seattle.

There's still racism that needs to be rooted out, but that lady really did embarrass herself by doing that. This country is way past waving a sign with an apology on it.
