http://www.cbsnews.com/news/dallas-guman-shooting-micah-johnson-sks-rifle/ So now will y'all stop pressing for magazine restrictions?
So it fits the narrative of any semi-auto period, is bad. Even fixed magazine relics. SKS is the first (oldest) semi-auto mil-surp rifle I can think of. So if they went for an all out ban in the nature of Australia , the SKS would be a very difficult gun to get.
Have you seen Turkey? This is very frequent in many countries. Some would say this could never happen in the US because the citizenry is armed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMe3WDmxBEI
Aren't you one of those people who insisted that if magazines were limited to 10 rounds it would reduce carnage?
Johnson also owned an AK-47. There are conflicting reports about what kind of gun the shooter was carrying. "In addition to the Saiga assault rifle equipped with high‐capacity detachable ammunition magazines, Johnson was reportedly also carrying a Glock pistol and a Fraser 25 caliber pistol.(*)(*)Johnson had reportedly bought an AK‐style assault rifle for $600 in 2014 in a private sale arranged through Facebook with the transfer taking place at a Target parking lot, although it is not clear whether it was the weapon used in the Dallas attack.(*)(*)Johnson told the seller that he wanted the assault rifle because he missed the firepower of such rifles since returning to the U.S. from serving in Afghanistan. "The Saiga AK‐74 is a classic assault rifle and incorporates many of the characteristics that make this category of firearm so lethal and distinguish it from sporting rifles (see later section Key Points About Assault Weapons)." http://www.vpc.org/studies/Saigabackgrounder.pdf
I was agreeing with your original statement. I thought it was a little imbecile of the news media pushing for magazine restrictions, and getting rid of AR-15s and any other guns you can think of for them to ignore the military coup is all.
And now that we know how effective a ten round magazine is, why would you keep pushing for larger ones ?
If there were a law forbidding higher cap mags, it should not affect anyone, one way or another. Next.
Do you have any idea how you load an sks? Its a top loader. You use chargers, not magazines. Takes some time to slip one in compared to a magazine. Magazine size is convenience. Effectivness is user based. The effectivness of killing power rests in the training of the individual who is shooting. The tool they use may bring convenience to them, but the skill set is not weapon based. So restricting weapon size, capacity, evil features(a term used in california gun law to represent flash hiders and other non issue items to restrict purchase) and other tool limitations does nothing to solve the issue which you are advocating.
Just how difficult do you think these things are to make? Let me help you. Not very. Next. With 3-D printers it will just be ridiculous.
While I think any restriction on so called assault rifles and magazine size is based in ignorance, I am not one to necessarily grab at reports that support my views; I have seen conflicting reports of what the Dallas psycho used. He has been reported to have used an Izhmash-Saiga 5.45 mm AK-74. I have seen where he was reported to use an SKS, But I thought that report was corrected. Whether the photos below are authentic I can't verify, but they are reported to be of the dead shooter and his rifle, which if authentic, show an AK-74, not a SKS. https://www.conservativeoutfitters....s-shooter-and-his-gun-surfaces-online-graphic Regardless, gun control, restriction of magazine size and scary rifles is not the answer to stopping the shootings by hateful psycho...they will find the means one way or another to carry out their murderous intentions...in fact, the Dallas psycho was apparently planning on using explosives, but seized on the protest march as an opportunity before completing his preparations for something larger. I would suggest, the media, the President, BLM, and others, sensationalizing these attacks have been creating a background of divisiveness and in my mind, incitement to violence, that is setting an environment where crazies think they are acting with the acceptance of many advocating against LE. I have even heard a number of people call the Dallas shooter a martyr. That continued repeated narrative by the media, the deflection of Dems to gun control, and the underlying encouragement of the crazies will result in continued violence, and an increasingly divided people.
I never accept what the Media reports as far as Firearms as accurate, if you see an SKS at an angle from a distance with a receiver modification that permits the use of standard AK magazines, it would be very easy to misidentify it, only recently, I saw such an example, a Man presented a modified SKS rifle and called it an AK-47, and He was the Rifles Owner !!!!
The Dallas shooter just demonstrated to the whole world that there is no correlation between carnage and magazine size. None.
And that is where you are making your mistake. Your thought process completely stops after that one, inaccurate statement.
Then why make the law in the first place? All you'll be doing is restrict good citizens from owning one. I can use the same logic on sports cars. Since there's really no legal need for them we should ban them, even though banning or allowing sports cars won't decrease high speed accidents.
Sorry, don't get the analogy. You don't need a background check to buy a new car from a dealer. You are buying something that was designed specifically for the purpose of using the magazine to enhance it's capability. Otherwise, in our military ambulance, we would not have been instructed it might be good to switch over to 30 round mags when we entered a hot zone.
