    A couple of flaws.
    1) The person advocating the existance of a God has the responsibility of proving God's existence. The truth of the arguement is not proven just because it is not disproven. Normally called An Argument from Ignorance.

    2) it is an assumption that even if there is some kind of God, the exact nature of which is undetermined, that God would condemn anyone that didn't worship it would go to hell, whatever that is. Be interesting to know how many of the thousands of different Religions have condemned the disbelievers to hell.

For the first point, yes I know, I'm not commanding you to prove His existence. I'm just saying that, because no one has proven He does or doesn't exist, His existence is still a question not yet answered, and it would be unscientific to simply assume He doesn't exist.

For the second point, my point was that, on the off chance that He did exist, it would be a folly to assume He didn't and then end up being wrong. Now, rationally speaking, because there is an entire world and a vast multitude of faiths, it doesn't statistically make sense that only the Christians got it right or only the Muslims got it right. So it would be logical to assume that God wont send you to Hell if you aren't Christian. Plus, He is supposed to be benevolent, so if he did, then He wouldn't be God, now would He?

It's the most sensible solution to your fear of God. Many people suffer from that. They try and be cool, and fit in, and not want to believe in god. However as they age, they fear god more and more, until eventually they are attending church on Sundays and Wednesdays.

When I was a Christian I feared God. I eventually overcame this irrational fear and questioned my beliefs. Study and reason lead me to agnosticism then atheism. The idea that I fear God and will be attending church is in accurate at best.

You're already showing signs of returning to the church. Do you ever go to confession?

I'm willing to look... but first you or some one else is going to have to point out exactly what about religion is "rational"

If God is omnipresent, then there is no "hell" because there is no place that God is not. That, or God runs hell which makes Him a sadistic bastard. So, either we have a narcissistic (needs to be worshiped) sadist (who tortures those who don't worship properly) or a big bad being that claims to be more than it really is and is therefore not supreme.

Wow. God sounds like Donald Trump, though I don't think Trump is a sadist.

You are like a guy in North Korea who praises "Great Leader" because he gets rewarded if he does so and tortured if he doesn't.

Continue praising your Hitler in the sky.

If I walk up to you on the street, demand you money, and tell you I will shoot you if you don't give it to me, if you choose not to give me your money and I shoot you, is that suicide since you chose to be shot?

Well, actually yes if God is the Christian god it doesn't have to be benevolent except to those that worship it.

You could always try answering the question, but you won't because it shows that your "people choose to go to hell" is illogical bull(*)(*)(*)(*).

It's not a free choice when you are coerced.

oh noes! You fearmongered me to worship your version of a god.

I can't take the pressure of an imaginary punishment. I will immediately pretend to believe in something that clearly sounds like a pile of inhumane crap just in case your made-up mythology might be right.

I will also believe in Zeus, Odin, Ra, all the Hindu gods and Mohammed...just to cover my super-scared booty.

Because you are supporting the actions of a Tyrant, your god has made the rules and punishes people for breaking them. He requires you worship him and threatens punishment if you do not, why anyone would support him in that is beyond me.

God, in the OP's conception, is not about justice. It's about worship and submission. It's about somebody else telling you what is important in life, and you accepting it on "faith."

I was trained in the usual fashion of the Southern Baptist. Sunday school, revivals, Wednesday night prayer meetings. I did my duty as a child and walked down the aisle to accept Christ as my savior - but, as a child, I did not really understand. I should say none of this was traumatic. I was not scarred, and my childhood memories are pleasant. I actually enjoyed reading the Bible.

Somehow, however, it never 'took.' After a certain age, I realized that I simply did not believe that the Bible was anything more than an important cultural document. As far as I can see, the revealed word of God is just the revealed word of some tribesmen in the desert.

Of course, I may be wrong. In that case, I suppose I will just have to pay the price. Nevertheless, I cannot force myself to believe what is to me fundamentally unbelievable.

Let's see....We are thrust into a world completely naked and defenseless, we are all destined to die, in the meantime we are subjected to all kinds of challenges we must surmount while we experience our bodies deteriorate. If we are 'lucky' enough to live to a ripe old age, most of our friends and even our intimate partners will have died and left us alone. Now...You tell me....Is that not an excellent definition of hell?
