    HYPERLINK has full story

    snip

The country’s largest private employer is eliminating about 7,000 U.S. store accounting and invoicing positions over the next several months, jobs mostly held by long-term employees, often some of the highest paid hourly workers in stores...........................

Starting early next year, much of that work will be handled by a central office or new money-counting “cash recycler” machines in stores. Wal-Mart tested the change in about 500 stores earlier this year.

    end snip

    WOW

jobs eliminated and being replaced by automation
higher paid jobs in the stores are the ones being eliminated/automated

this isn't good news because all of the layoffs we've seen from good-paying jobs saw people kicking off new careers in high-growth sectors such as Wal Mart, Subway etc.

The jobs reports have shown great growth in part-time, low-paying jobs. With these jobs being eliminated there is now only 1 solution and that is to cast your vote for even bigger and more bloated/corrupt govt and vote Democrat.

If these 7,000 folks don't look for work it will help lower the unemployment rate.

Wal-Mart has 2.3 million employees. This represents just 0.3% of their workforce.

The OP's obsession with layoffs is peculiar. Companies constantly hire/fire/grow/shrink/succeed/fail, in good times and bad. The only difference is that in good times, more companies hire than lay off; in bad times, the reverse is true. But in both cases, you can always find examples of mass layoffs. Such examples say nothing about the overall strength (or weakness) of the economy.

For instance, Amazon recently announced they would be adding 1,500 jobs in Florida, and another 2,000 each in Ohio and Illinois:
    http://jacksonville.com/jobs/local-...plans-bring-1500-jobs-new-distribution-center
    http://nbc4i.com/2016/07/13/etna-could-see-a-big-impact-with-amazon-fulfillment-center/
    http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-amazon-joliet-jobs-0526-biz-20160525-story.html

    And overall, companies are hiring.

Indeed, their biggest problem is finding ENOUGH workers.

So for every mass layoff highlighted by the OP, it's easy to find an equal or greater amount of hiring. Because our economy (and hiring) is expanding, not shrinking.

I think they have peaked in their current bricks and mortar manifestation. What I expect them to look like in 20 years is the superstore having been replaced by a grocery store chain, tire repair/garage type store, free-standing pharmacy, smaller clothes/household good store, etc. With Sam's still around. Walmart is a time suck and it is getting annoying to have to walk from one side of that big store to another just to find something.

If capitalism can't support the population then socialism won't be able to either. - Venuzuela

Or are you not to the stage yet where a person comes to the realization that the money has to come from somewhere? Norway - 8th largest oil producer where most of the government's money comes from that source yet has a population less than that of the city I am currently in

So every job loss is a major tragedy that must be highlighted, and every job creation is something to be ignored. Got it.

There are ALWAYS going to be layoffs. It will never change. Doesn't matter who is in office, it won't change. People being replaced by technology to cut back on operating costs, like this example, will only continue to grow. It's not about helping people and creating jobs anymore, it's about the almighty dollar to corporations and CEO's...

I understand that if capitalism fails, something will need to replace it or many will suffer and\or die

do not confuse me stating the truth with that being what I want, I do not want to become a china, Corp Greed may force it on us though

Last time a Republican sat in the WH, we were losing 200,000 jobs a month.

And if you read the WalMart report, these jobs are being replaced with new accounting software ... what does a political party
    have to do with that?

Are you a BOT? You post the same thing and pretend it's an answer to every response. I think you're a BOT - none of
    your answers require thought.

And that's why dollar stores are booming. They build stores in the country, and people can get most of their every day goods without having to drive into town with all that traffic. Get in and out quickly. That's the new way of retail. Radio Shack could benefit if they were smart enough to get a niche in the electronics market for things people want. They'd be booming. Instead they closed the one I used to shop at regularly. They need to market the convenience aspect and expand their inventory. The trend is for smaller retail stores. Anything else can be bought online on places like Amazon.
