He wasn't hurt by his poor performance? That concept is one of two things, an oxymoron or wishful thinking depending upon your viewpoint.

Trump might do better if he debates half as well as Pence. Can't ask more of him. According to experts, the bar is set so low for him this time he might trip over it.

Gasp! Y-You mean that this time around it might really just be Trump and Hillary debating rather than Trump debating against BOTH Hillary and the DNC owned moderator? Wow!

As the second debate approaches time to repeat myself with some revision to keep up with the times.

As the second debate approaches there is one burning question in the minds of voters. Which Donald Trump is going to appear, the rabble rousing, white nationalist, loud mouthed, arrogant, narcissistic Trump or the calm, mild-mannered, highly disciplined, teleprompter reading Trump? Will he learn anything from Pence's performance? He lost the first debate. Will he learn anything from his mistakes?

Hint: Learning is not Trump's long suit.

Logic must take over as one attempts to be prescient here. The casual observer would note that the new Trump of the past month is a product of new management, primarily Kellyanne Conway. She and his new CEO, Stephen Bannon, have apparently confided in him. Change your persona or lose the election. Those are the only two choices. Strangely enough, it appears Trump listened. That is practically a first. He and his campaign people should be congratulated.

Unfortunately, after his first debate performance his poll numbers are slumping badly. Hillary is leading in all the battleground states except Ohio.

But there is a problem here. Trump’s campaign began in June 2015. He rolled through the primaries dispatching sixteen rivals, no small accomplishment. His approach was bombastic and he often appeared to be his own worst enemy. He spoke off the cuff, often times not brilliantly. He attracted a certain following that forgave him for his every mistake. It did not matter how crude he was. Call Mexicans rapists and drug addicts, weaken NATO, attack the mother of an American hero, call on Second Amendment supporters to do what needs to be done, it did not matter. He was forgiven.

Many think that is the real Trump. The new, fake Trump is controlled by his managers and prepared speeches on a teleprompter. His managers will not be around when Trump appears on that stage for the debates. There will be no teleprompters telling him what to say. Recently we saw the resurgence of the real Trump. He tacitly admitted he had lied for five years and finally admitted that Obama was born in the U.S. The real Trump offered no apologies to our President. The real Trump facetiously accused the Clinton campaign of starting the birther controversy in 2008, a perfectly ludicrous assertion. After the first debate he is still talking about some Miss America, the birther movement he led while explaining why he isn't paying federal income taxes.

Prediction: He will lose his cool again because that is a part of his DNA and will lose the second debate.

I think you have a point. Nevertheless, the second debate -- a town hall format this time -- is just around the corner. What is striking is that our Trump friends seem to have lost interest in the debates. Perhaps they can see the handwriting on the wall. Trump isn't going to just lose the debates. He is going to lose the election.

That is true, but there are a lot of Republicans who are not enthralled with Trump. That is even more true today because of the release of that video. The second debate could prove real interesting.

    More from the OP, revised.

In the second debate Trump will be out of his new and controlled element. If he acts like he did in the primary debates, he is doomed. In them he fed red meat to his cheering followers. This time he faces a general audience, not just Republican sycophants. Both the real and the new Trump are sketchy on details. Hillary is a specialist in details. That is her comfort zone. There is very little doubt that Hillary will dominate the debates. In addition to being an expert on specifics, she has all that ammo the real Trump gratuitously provided. As he realizes he is losing to a woman, the real Trump will lose his cool.

A few days after the second debate, watch Hillary’s numbers soar in the polls while Trump’s numbers correspondingly fall to new lows.

Adding to the drama, is that nasty video. Juan Williams on conservative Fox News stated that he had been in many locker rooms, but he had never anything as vulgar as Trump's comments on that video. As a miler in track and a defense man in ice hockey, that is my experience as well. So much for the Trump camp tossing this off as mere locker room talk. In my experience anyone who even started talking like that is a complete jerk.

Forty lawmakers who had been supporting Trump are now jumping ship trying desperately to save the Republican Party from the upcoming disaster. To them, preserving their majority in the Senate and the House is the number one priority as well as the state houses. The down ballot is in a heap of trouble.

I was right after the first debate. Being right after the second is a no-brainer.

I was right after the first debate. I will be right after the second debate.

Is anyone bothered by the fact that an Australian dodging Swedish law and the Russians are trying to interfere in an American election?

Is the Trump camp excited about the assist from an Australian and the Russian government? Probably. Trump willingly appeared on a Russian controlled propaganda network last month criticizing our Commander-in Chief.

Thanks for the letting me gaze into your crystal ball Swami. ;-)
Can your ball tell you why the "conservative" Juan Williams at the "conservative" Fox has a son supporting Trump? Credibility problem? ;-)

Don't you just hate it when some foreigner leaks all this proof of the criminal acts, conflicts of interest, and treachery of our own leaders? ;-)

Every red blooded American patriot should want all that stuff kept secret - right?

Williams generally espouses the liberal point of view on Fox. I know nothing of his son's predilections.

I'm no swami. I'm just using common sense. It's all over for Trump. He either quits or he will be at war with both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party. How long his devout followers will stay with him is in serious question.

You are assuming that the two are mutually exclusive. This is a false assumption. Just because a politician is not perfect (or does something imperfectly) , it is not a certainty that a voter will reject (not vote for) that politician.

So far Trump (sans the latest gaffe) has been a Teflon Don.

Sure but Pence is not a winning candidate. Under any serious scrutiny Pence (The MVP - Mandatory Vaginal Penetration- Candidate) would be rejected by almost all but the constitution hating religious right.

I have never given Trump much of a chance of winning the election. If it were not that Hillary is such a horrible candidate I would give Trump would have no chance at all.

This latest gaffe hurt Trump and I think there is more to come out.

The GOP had this baby dropped off by the stork on their doorstep and they have managed to kick it to the curb.
