And this is bad just how? Cuba in 1960 was the second strongest economy in Latin America, now it is the second worst.
The "good" is probably that the Cuban people, at least many of them, absolutely loved him.....but that's because, like Kim Jong Un, he was a savage that ruthlessly controlled the media, so of course the brain-washed Cuban people are going to love the only person that politically they really hear about their whole life. By banning opposing media, Fidel/Raul are intellectual cowards, pure and simple. An intellectual light-weight, who was so insecure that instead of standing up to political opponents he just had them tortured and imprisoned.
Impossible, you fool! Socialism works - just look at the vibrant socialist economy of the Soviet Unio......er......uh......ok look, nevermind. Well look at the vibrant socialist economy of North Kore........uh, never mind. Just look at the vibrant socialist economy of Venezu....no never mind. Just never mind.
Yeah, never mind the fact that Cubans by the boatload began leaving Cuba almost immediately after Castro came to power. The USA didn't drive them out of Cuba.
It's very telling, though not surprising, to see so many coming out in defense of Fidel Castro. They did the same thing with Chavez. Many seem to have a real attraction to the idea of a small country having a violent communist revolution against a Western superpower like the US.
Fidel wouldn't really allow emigration, so he effectively built a WALL to keep people in, basically. No different than Trump. I wonder if the libs will condemn him for effectively building a WALL!?
Don't forget Mozambique. They'll never get rid of the all the land mines they laid to keep the people out..... er I mean in, at the time it was a socialist paradise.
Bautista was definitely a US puppet, the US mafia owned many of the clubs and casinos on the island. Lucky Luciano, mafioso extraordinaire was casino operator there.
Most of the posts on this thread seem to imply that not only was Fidel bad, but that he was downright horrific! Seems the liberal love-fest with the Cuban dictator is a real outlier of opinion.
I do think Raul has made one decision for the people that may actually help. That is to limit people to one business per person. This should allow for many people in a similar field to earn a good living. Especially when you're living on a island the approximate size of Tennessee.
"Socialist paradise" "Jumbo shrimp" "Microsoft Works" "Military intelligence" "Cuban democracy" "Religious morality" "Airline schedules"
He lived 90 years, a lot longer than those that spoke out against him. Communism is a boil on the butt of free thinking people. Government has one job, protect the country.
Not sure how the death of Fidel Castro fits into what you had to say here, Polly, but be that as it may...it appears that CONSERVATISM has taken control and rules throughout the world. Should be a much better place during the next decade...right?
Is this a joke? Let's see. Make $30 dollars a month just to sit around and live in a shack. Or have the opportunity to start a business or work for someone who does, make much more and live in something that can be called housing. Tough call.
“History will remember Fidel Castro as an evil, murderous dictator who inflicted misery and suffering on his own people.” – so says the guy we probably should have put into office instead of the orange “p***y grabber”. http://www.weaselzippers.us/309803-...rican-leaders-respond-to-fidel-castros-death/
sure he did, you either worship him and his father or go to hell like a jealous boyfriend that tells his girlfriend either love me or I lock you in the basement for the rest of your life God's can't be killed, pretending to be killed is nothing more than an act... right?.. this should be saved for another discussion though imo yes, our secular system is the best...... no doubt about that.. why, cause we use the best of all systems and do not limit ourselves to just one .
U.S. presidents have term limits AND have to be ELECTED. Fidel "outlasted" them by holding onto power by force. He was NEVER elected.
Yes, now a capitalist will print Castro T-shirts and hit the college campuses to make his fortune. Che's T is so 60's now.
