That title isn't very clear but it's the best I could do at the time with the available space. Look at the chart. Notice the level of public funding we spend per capita on healthcare. It's about $4,000 per capita. Then look at how much other countries spend TOTAL, -public and private spending. You will see that there are many countries that spend a total amount that is less than what we spend from just tax dollars (public spending) on healthcare, and many of them have healthcare that rivals ours for outcomes and availability. OECD Health Data
Seems to me that our healthcare is managed and directed by the insurance industry and not by us. We have not demanded a fair and competitive marketplace because most folks don't really care about costs when their employers are covering the premiums. My view from the living room is that most of the tax dollar spending is for Medicaid and other low income benefits. I think we could reconstruct that spending to eliminate the insurance company stranglehold and big pharmaceutical profits. The same level of tax dollar spending with leveraged cost negotiations could provide better service for more people. The big question is who to trust with managing such a huge budget honestly.
And all that public funding is largely wasted on bureaucracy. And a good part of that private expenditure is wasted on government mandated bureaucracy. Get the government out of health care and we will all benefit.
What, all those countries that have nationalized systems do NOT have government mandated bureaucracy??? The real waste in our system comes from returns on investment shares and 30% administrative mark-up in the PRIVATE sector.
