Sanctions, over Russian aggression in Ukraine, Crimea, and going back to Georgia, have hurt Russia economically. Russia depends on selling fossil fuel for much of its economy. With the help of Saudis flooding the market with oil, prices are down. A natural gas pipeline through Syria to Europe would help Russia. However, Qatar wants to do the same thing and asked Saudi Arabia for help. Obviously, Russia wants to stop a Qatar pipeline.

America is weary of sending our sons and daughters to die in wars over cheap gasoline. So, we now have a "religious extremist" war in Syria. Oddly enough, Russian interventions in Syria don't seem to target the religious extremists, but rather keep a Russian ally in power. That's not accidental.

Watergate taught us to follow the money. This is about Russian hegemony and money, not about Trump. The DNC was hacked more than a year before the election, well before Trump was the nominee. The Russians wanted to hurt Clinton's chances to be elected, and even if she was, to cast doubt and lessen her ability to lead. No matter the opposition, Russia wanted to hurt Clinton.

If sanctions end without Russia leaving Ukraine, Putin is in the cat bird seat. Mitch McConnell said this morning, "Russia is not our friend." While I don't really care for Senator McConnell much, he's right and we need to listen. This attempt to influence our election needs to be investigated so, moving forward, the American people have confidence in one of our most sacred institutions, the free election of our leader.
