DISCLAIMER: Sorry if it sounds a little too nationalistic for a liberal.

America is not India, America is not Nigeria, it is not one of the many developing countries out thee still in third-world status. The people who have thought America has lost its "Greatness," have the wrong definition of "Great." Having boots on the ground isn't great, nor is promoting isolationism great, America couldn't be greater. Do we live under a dictator who will kill journalists? No. Have we reached he status of North Korea, where no one has electricity? No. Fact is, a good amount of vehicles are made manufactured here, with Volvo having plans to begin production in SC in 2018. The Jeep Wrangler is made here, the Ford F-150 is made here, and the only mid-size vehicle in its class, the Chevy Sonic, is made here.

Fact is, America never lost its greatness. We may not be a perfect nation, but no nation is capable of being absolutely perfect. Perfection is what Trump is going after, not whether we are great or not. If you question whether America is great or not, I must question your pride in being a American. America doesn't look like a third-world country to me.

    Happy Holidays.

Just take a little look around the world, and you realize how fortunate we are.

    Merry Christmas, PFers.

Though you make some great points I cannot argue with, I think you're forgetting some items.

Obama has created a HUGE divide in our nation. He's supported criminals, he's armed terrorists (inadvertently but none the less he's still arming people we shouldn't), he's sent white house aids to the funeral of an attempted cop killer, he's attacked many values American people hold true.

Trump's message is a lot more social than the things you listed.

So your standard of greatness is Not being Egypt or North Korea??? Sorry but your thread reads more like damning with faint praise, as they say, rather than a testament to greatness.

The racist are angry. They are doubling down on the race card that has worked so well for them. Americans are so not racist infact, that they have to create fake racial incidents. The Democrat machine is doing the kkks dirty work and giving the kkk credit. Modern democrats are the best thing to ever happen to the irrelevant kkk.

I agree America is already great. But it can be better. Specifically when we stop the double standards for racism, which negatively affects white people. Stop hating our police, when statistically it does not make sense to fear or hate them despite the occasional bad one. Stop making massive issues out of stupid things like transgenders using (*)(*)(*)(*)ing bathrooms, despite knowing how exploitable that is. Stop supporting terrorist groups like BLM. The list goes on.

"Great" is incredibly subjective. Being "Great" because we're not India, Nigeria, North Korea or some other country that's all (*)(*)(*)(*)ed up isn't the best argument. Even if you put racial issues aside, you still have a country that has an extremely high number of people incarcerated for a myriad of reasons, lots of pollution, our foot in several countries' business whether they need it or not, too many mass shootings, some of the highest tax rates in the world and so much more.

WAAAAYYYYYY too much work to do.

If you say so ;) Here in the greatness of America, we like to get better than 46 years out of our fun times, then again we're talking Canada and what is there after 46 years, right!

It is a great country but every chance I get to throw a wrench in the development of a banana republic, I will vote accordingly.

I dunno. Seems to me a great nation does not wage perpetual war for perpetual peace, nor does it have an economic model which does not serve the people of that nation. Since the kind of economic model in place matters given people have to work to survive and prosper. A great nation does not meddle or interfere in the business of other sovereign nations. So we are far away from being great.

It used to be a lot better for us . Man back in the 50s we ruled. Then we gave it all away and now we are the bad guys for not giving it up fast enough

I'm a senior-75 years old. I've seen more of American history first hand than many- and the worst as well as the best. I can say that while America still has some of it's "great" qualities, it has lost a lot. Unfortunately, what it has lost most is in the qualities of it's people. My generation is trying to do a hand-off, just like a basketball player shifting the ball to a player in a position to go forward and whose turn has come. Younger generations used to take that ball and run with it. Now, it bounces off their heads and they say--- Huh?

People in basic jobs like fast food service and grocery checkers can't count change because their math is so poor. They can't spell- and they can't think. They can't balance their checkbooks, or credit card accounts- some don't even know how to use checks. They are more and more dependent on devices and government- and that makes them weak, gullible and easy to manipulate for corrupt politicians. But, they still think they deserve a big raise.

The strength of the nation- and it's ability to remain a great country- is directly related to the strength of it's people. As that strength deteriorates- so does the strength and greatness of America.
For example, the frequent story about the widening "income inequality" issue. This too, is a product of our decline. The number of people who can and do perform well is shrinking- and thus, they become more valuable. The number who could but won't perform well is growing, and the number who just can't perform at all is growing. Thus, the gap in income between them is widening- because the capable and willing are becoming harder to find and more valuable, while those prefer to produce as little as possible are easier to find and less valuable. The problem of income inequality is directly related to production and skill inequality. Not an issue that a new law will affect at all. Leadership, on the other hand- might have a chance, at least in the long term.

A leaders job is not just administration, it's also coaching- mostly by example. No great coach team ever won titles with players who were asleep on the field, or staring blankly at their smart phone. What I see in the newer generations is not at all great, it's often pathetic and marked by ignorance, lack of ambition and irresponsible behavior. These people are the generation that needs to take the pass, play sharp and keep America on top of the game. They simply are not ready to meet that challenge, and there is no instant fix.

Some of those who read this are going "Huh?" right now.

When the Right began conceding control of the educational system to the Left during the 1960s and the Left began employing Social Engineering processes along Cultural Marxism lines, the writing was on the wall and that was how in 2013 the nation went in this direction:

It depends on your definition of "great" as it applies here. You made a start at the challenge to define it.

Is "great" a one-word description of a nation that is the richest? --the most advanced? --has the best history of technological innovation and development? --the most developed and advanced lifestyle? --the largest national debt? --the most powerful and well-funded military?

If so, then the U.S. is probably the "greatest" although in the categories of technological innovation and development, and the most developed and advanced lifestyle, Some European nations are catching up fast or already surpassing us. Many have high-speed rail that runs on elevated tracks and float above those tracks on a magnetic bed.

But to me, one very important --if not the most important --measure of "greatness" is the level of citizen satisfaction and happiness. The U.S. does poorly in that area with Denmark in the lead. And what is more important than citizen satisfaction? It is all that really matters, isn't it?

Come on. That's just cheap slander. And untrue. The average age of fast food workers is 25 and they have high school diplomas and some even more. They would have those jobs if they couldn't think and do math.

You need to realize that when you make such blanket slanderous statements you need to either provide documented evidence or realize your view is ignorant and untrue.
