Fifteen warning signs of impending tyranny

Here are some musings on impending tyranny, which any country should consider. Not to point any fingers, this fine day. Let's hope things don't get rapidly worse this year.

As tyrants take control of democracies, they typically:

1. Exaggerate their mandate to govern — claiming, for example, that they won an election by a landslide even after losing the popular vote.

2. Repeatedly claim massive voter fraud in the absence of any evidence, in order to restrict voting in subsequent elections.

3. Call anyone who opposes them “enemies.”

4. Turn the public against journalists or media outlets that criticize them, calling them “deceitful” and “scum.”

5. Hold few if any press conferences, preferring to communicate with the public directly through mass rallies and unfiltered statements.

6. Tell the public big lies, causing them to doubt the truth and to believe fictions that support the tyrants’ goals.

7. Blame economic stresses on immigrants or racial or religious minorities, and foment public bias and even violence against them.

8. Attribute acts of domestic violence to “enemies within,” and use such events as excuses to beef up internal security and limit civil liberties.

9. Threaten mass deportations, registries of religious minorities and refugees bans.

10. Seek to eliminate or reduce the influence of competing centers of power, such as labor unions and opposition parties.

11. Appoint family members to high positions of authority.

12. Surround themselves with their own personal security force rather than a security detail accountable to the public.

13. Put generals into top civilian posts.

14. Make personal alliances with foreign dictators.

15. Draw no distinction between personal property and public property, profiteering from their public office.

I know this might be a silly question, but what is the source for your 'list'?

I swear, looks like I've seen all those brought up in some kind of anti-Trump post or another. Over and over again.

Literally every American president could be considered a "tyrant" by the OP's list.

Robert Reich has a lot of room to talk... LOL Wasn't he a Hillary supporter?? Seems it is just a matter of ideological purity for him to decide if he wishes to label then. Laughable.

 

Maybe the list is more anti Trump paranoia, but not something to dismiss as silly just yet. 11 through 14 are true. 12 is a biggie.

A better response would have been to show how the list is wrong or how Trump is not doing what the list claims. Pointing out the authors' bias is intellectually lazy.

 

He was part of the Bernie camp who completely caved to HRC after they got hosed. lol

There's no way any of them would have held their ground like Trump against the establishment.

 

Tyranny: When you no longer agree with what the government is doing with their excessive size and power!

Obviously the point was that the standards are dubious, and could certainly be applied to his choice because they are so vague. Given that he was the source and the advocate, it certainly is appropriate to question both his veracity and his hypocrisy.

 

Consider yourself toast.

That being said, yeah, some of those apply and are a concern, but you could take some of them and apply to almost every president and candidate.

 

Trump whipped Hillary 57% to 43% in the Electoral College... and the Left has been whining ever since!

 

Reich is just pissed because Trump doesn't have any midgets in his cabinet.

 

If tyranny seizes the power, that will be democrats fault.
Democrats divide people by gender, by race and by sexuality.

 

Real tyrants don't lose the popular vote. They win 98% of it.

Real tyrants claim the election was completely fair and that their 98% share of the vote was completely legitimate. Those who claim the election was rigged are put in jail.

Real tyrants have no living enemies.

Real tyrants expect the public to fully believe and trust the media because. . . well obviously!

And so on and on.

Trump can't hold a candle to real tyrants. In fact the only people who see Trump as a tyrant and those who supported the women he defeated in a fair and honest election.

 

So these folks who believe Trump is a tyrant, what would that have us do, overturn the constitutional election process and give the presidency to Hillary? My kitty hurts! Sand in the K-Y!

 

In the end, she didn't even give a speech to the people who had waited all night.

We dodged a bullet.

 

In short we must be approaching tyranny because Hillary lost. The ever increasingly authoritarian, statist left is having another temper tantrum because Hillary, the real authoritarian in the race could only a 2/5 of the states and 1/6 of the counties.

It is interesting to note that the state of California, one of the states and a goodly number of the counties and entire margin of her popular vote victory plus a million and a half, is talking about and the consensus of opinion of most everyone else can be summed up in the phrase, whatever just don't let the door hit you in the rear on the way out.
