I think the Mozambique Drill is more likely to be your fate in Zimbabwe... Congo and even Somalia than Mozambique these days... but then, you never know what'll happen when you take a left instead of a right

That was a trap aimed at getting gun grabbers to parade their ignorance. There is no such thing as an assault magazine.

Legally there is no such thing as an assault magazine. It is a vague, deliberately undefined term with no legal basis whatsoever. It is nothing more than nonsense cooked up for the purpose of knowingly engaging in intellectual dishonesty.

It matters, because America is being sold the BIG LIE. We're the NRA. We know our guns. We know what's best for society. Trust us. Oh, by the way, we used to have a different outlook. But that was a different America. It wasn't Land of the Free and Home of the Brave.

There was an assault weapon ban. I believe it focused on magazine size. Since there are so many experts on this thread, perhaps you can all get together and come up with some good language for an assault weapon ban.

What is "rare" in your opinion? How many mass murders should the US tolerate in a single year? How many would it take for you to change your opinion. What if there were 10,000 mass murders in 2017. Would that change your opinion?

It actually focused on cosmetic features. There was a magazine capacity limit, but everything was grandfathered, and the DOJ found that there was no impact on crime because of the ban.

How about this: "In the absence of clearer guidance from the Supreme Court or stronger evidence in the record, we follow the approach taken by the District Courts and by the D.C. Circuit in Heller II and assume for the sake of argument that these “commonly used” weapons and magazines are also “typically possessed by law‐abiding citizens for lawful purposes. In short, we proceed on the assumption that these laws ban weapons protected by the Second Amendment."

    In other words, "no".

If there were 10,000 mass murders each, and the vast majority used ARs, and could only have been committed with ARs, then you might have a point. As it is, mass murders kill fewer people each year than are murdered by drowning, on average, and fewer than die from falling out of bed, falling down the stairs and falling out of wheelchairs.

Banning, for any definition of the word, any type of firearm, will have no effect on an event that happens between 1-6 times per year.

Maybe if Obama stopped letting violent people out of jail and letting terrorists go free we would have fewer of them.

And after the ban was lifted a study was done and proved that the ban had no affect on crime. So why reenact it now?

    - - - Updated - - -

Irrelevant as pistols are used more in mass shootings than so called assault rifles. Where's your cry to ban pistols?

how many stupid gun laws that don't do squat to stop criminals are gun haters going to support in order to pretend they are doing something about violent criminals, when their real goal is a politically based attack on conservative gun owners?

There is no need for an "assault weapons ban". Its been firmly proven that gun control does not work, basically more guns = less crime.

The fundamental problem is not firearms, violence is a symptom of the real problem. The real problem is in the large cities where people have been trapped for decades and given no hope for improvement. Its the lack of education and employment opportunities, collapse of the family social order, corrupt city governments, poverty. And in almost every case, the root cause is "progressive" policies. Get rid of the "progressives" running the cities and you solve the underlying problem, and then the violence will drop.
