YOU ARE, and I am and everybody EXCEPT Mexico.
So once again your candidate has lied to you and you ate it up, only to get screwed! "Congress will consider up to $15 billion for border wall, GOP leaders say".
Yep, we all lose this round to that lying abomination you put in the White House.
"Oh, we'll get it all back from the "border tax", you say. When has the Government EVER given money back to the people? All the "border tax" will do is raise prices on anything coming across the border because you the customer are the one who will pay that tax, too. The retailers sure aren't going to absorb it and neither are the producers of any product coming across the border. AGAIN, it's YOU and I and every other taxpaying American except Trump of course (remember, Trump doesn't pay his taxes) who will pay for this stupid wall. And all anybody who wants to get by this stupid wall will have to do is dig a tunnel, just like they've been doing for years, duh.
So sit back and watch what Mr. Trump will do for you next, because I doubt he's done screwing the "poorly educated" that put him in office..

Did anyone literally believe that Trump has the power to make Mexico pay for the wall?

I wanted a wall. I didn't expect Mexico to pay for it. Initially i laughed at Trumps statement thinking he was joking.

He had to be joking. But the numbnuts who showed up at his rallies started cheering for it, so he had to pretend he was serious.
Now he's backed into a corner and can't let go of it without getting egg on his face.

    It's not a joke.

There are methods to strongarm Mexico into paying it whether they like it or not.

Increased taxes always get passed on to the consumers - meaning American Citizens.

American companies do $400 million dollars with Mexico every year. Over one million Americans are employed in Mexico and work for Mexican companies. This Trump BS with Mexico will just be another case of the American government cutting off its own nose to spite it's face

Trump has no concept of the Laws of Unitended Consequences.

What do you expect a wall to do, stop tunnels too? Come on. This wall is just another really stupid waste of money.
The Mexicans, Muslims and terrorists are NOT the greatest danger to the United States of America right now. President Trump is far more dangerous to this country and everything it stands for.

Sure there are the only problem that such methods will end up doing the US far more harm then what we end up doing to Mexico.

Not since President Polk send most of the US army south in the 1820s causing President Grant to write decades later "to this day regard the war, which resulted, as one of the most unjust ever waged by a stronger against a weaker nation. It was an instance of a republic following the bad example of European monarchies, in not considering justice in their desire to acquire additional territory." had we shame ourselves in front of the world over Mexico.

In other word the world is likely to begin to view us as a large mad dog that need to be deal with by joint actions before another nation become a victim of our madness.

Direct the flow of traffic to easier to managed areas and increase the safety of mexican and american citizens by stopping the transfer of guns and drugs or the smuggling of human beings. I am not against a bigger door. I am against the lack of regulations and control to ensure safe and monitored immigration and transfer of legal goods.

Drugs are a danger to america. Someone who is denied access for security reasons can still get in.

I dont disagree. In regards to people who use them the laws are to strict and not constructive in making peoples lives better. Drug cartels who try to smuggle them across the border is a very different matter.

    That's my thinking as well.

Name one way that Mexico can be made to pay for the wall? Sure thing. How about placing a tax on all monies sent to Mexico from people in the United States? That's been described in a number of different articles, including a CNN Money writeup:

That remains a very straight forward way of generating the finances. You need others?

so after 8 years of obama the US does not even have the economic power to exert its will on mexico. No wonder syria was a disaster and Russia can do whatever it wants in crimea.

I laugh at the people who say sanctions hurt russia half a world away but tarriffs and fees dont hurt mexico right next door.

It can be taxed in a number of different ways; it's up to Congress to nail down the details. The point is, it can be easily done, and would result in Mexico paying for the wall. Isn't that the point?

Every tax gets passed on to the consumer, so you will pay for this wall, one way or another, period. And for what? It sure won't stop the drugs, gang members and other illegals who use the tunnels already in place.
It's a really really stupid idea and pretty much useless.

Don't you read anything? The drug cartels don't send their drugs across the open spaces on the backs of the illegals this stupid wall will stop. They use tunnels, planes and corrupt border guards to move tons and tons of their poison in each shipment. The only thing this stupid wall will stop are the poor illegals who can't afford any other way across the border. And somehow, I don't see a few thousand very poor people seeking a better life as a huge threat to this country. They certainly aren't near the threat to the American way of life that our present abomination of a president is.

In the situation of people in the U.S. wiring money to people in Mexico, who is the consumer? 'Cuz whoever it is, it's not me. The argument which says "you will pay for this wall, one way or another, period" falls a bit flat. As to your assertion that a wall won't stop the drugs, gang members and other illegals crossing over, I realize that it won't stop these activities completely, but it will put a serious dent in them, and the rest we can address as we go along.
