A brilliant move by partisan Democrats got Betsy DeVos confirmed to be the Trump administrations Secretary Of Education. If the Senate Democrats on the Judicial committee hadnt stalled the confirmation of their fellow Senator Jeff Sessions to be Attorney General and had he already been installed as the Justice Department head, the Republicans would have been one vote short of confirming DeVos as head of the Education Department and she would have been defeated. Great move Democrats! Now both DeVos and Sessions will be confirmed and Democrats will have handed Trump another victory through hyper partisan-ism, incompetence and pure stupidity.
Why is it the fault of the Democrats that 51 Republicans approved an extremely unqualified candidate? It's not hard to acknowledge that you can support a person's stance on an issue (in this case, school vouchers) while also acknowledging that they don't have nearly enough experience to successfully execute the duties of the position. Anyone not voting along partisan lines should have understood that.
I don't understand, the ballotings were two separate things, how did one affect the other? I didn't see Sessions as that bad, DeVos was terribly unqualified but she may just be presiding over a death as the Republicans are looking to dismantle DEd anyway. Are the Departments originated by the Congress? I had thought they were a totally Presidential thing, and understood the early Presidents had only a few, like the Postmaster and the Dept of War
Let's say you were head coach of a football team. You start interviewing a defensive coordinator and he says "I like the 3-4 defense; I think it works better than any other style of defense." You say "Great, I think so too. Now how much coaching experience do you have?" He says, "well, none. None whatsoever." What do you do? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
IMO the true genius of the Trump admin. is about to reveal itself. 1st Trump predicated his travel restrictions based on the groundwork laid by the Obama admin. Knowing the "ban" would certainly be challenged. Now, if the 9th circuit cites the 1965 nationality act / 1980 refugee act, the GOP can argue for a repeal of both in the interest of nat'l security. This of course will pave the way for Trump to broaden, and expand his EO, and eliminate further judicial involvement.
"Experience" as determined by the "Teacher's Union" right? And you never wonder why the inner city schools suck? Amazing!
Apparently your fellow Democrats didn't understand either that Sessions couldn't have voted in the full Senate vote on DeVos if he was no longer a Senator but the Attorney General.
If the dems did not drag their feet on Sessions and nominated him earlier, he'd not have been able to cast his 50th vote for DeVos and the dems would have succeeded in blocking her nomination. But that would require the dems to think ahead and not act on pure emotions and malice for once.
Experience as determined by any experience with schools at all, as determined by anyone involved in education, period. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It seems that the Dept. of Ed. was indeed created by Congress. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Department_of_Education
And of course Republicans support someone who doesn't know the first thing about education. What a sham.
What if that defensive coordinator had studied the 3-4 extensively, convincing some teams to go with it, and those teams found success? What if those opposing this defensive coordinator would rather see someone with coaching experience from an 0-64 team?
DeVos has no experience fighting to keep the Teacher's union in business and favoring and protecting the union's dues payers and caring not a twit about the inner city children that are cursed with schools that suck. That kind of experience isn't necessary to deliver school choice to inner city kids.
America's public education is run by the Teacher's unions who ownn the Democrats. Everybody knows that, and by that fact inner city schools suck because Teacher's unions and Democrats care more about union teachers than inner city black kids. What else does anybody need to know about public education?
