Unfortunately, it seems that people haven't been squeezed enough to be motivated to go on a general strike. The owners of the country (that is, rich men of propriety) already have them by the gonads but their grip is not tight enough for the majority to feel any pain.

I guess that's the ingenuity of this system. :hmm:

Immigrants are suppoedly striking today. "A day w/o immigrants". I would suggest to any employer who notices the conspicuous absence of emploees today, to consider that the missing workers may be of tenuous employment status. Perhaps they've misrepresented their legal status, or overstayed visas. Either way, I'd look to replace them.

They might want to wait and see how this "day without immigrants" strike goes first.

Good luck getting Americans to not go shopping on their day off.

Imagine what a glorious day it will be when the whole country goes on strike, Doctors and nurses, hospital workers, police and firemen, mail service, phone and power companies. Liberalism is truly a mental disease. Just tell me who in America does this type of action hurt?

Or they might just report themselves to the authorities and get themselves arrested since under federal law, it is illegal for an employer to engage with illegal immigrants in the following manner:

    - Hiring illegal immigrants
    - Recruiting illegal immigrants
    - Referring illegal immigrants for work and receiving a fee

It is also illegal for employers to not verify work authorization.

This is not what a general strike is. And I fail to see the connection with "Liberalism".

I could never figure out how a 'moocher strike!' would work, anyway. Not use the ebt card? No calls with the obama phone?

this is the first I've heard of Today's strike, reading about it at work, all 7 businesses are open for business today in my little building, so I guess none of us got the memo. Oops !!!

I don't think i'm going to notice the impact in my little corner of Florida but I'm glad that these business owners and employees can afford the lost income/wages, I can't.

Keep on marching, keep on chanting, keep on striking. Throw even bigger temper tantrums.

It is making it easier for those of us who manage workers to spot who gets pay raises and is selected for advancement up the ladder.

From your link. "Renowned novelist and critic Francine Prose, writing in the Guardian last week, proposed a national general strike: a collective withholding of labor and purchasing power in opposition to Trump." "Let's designate a day on which no one (that is, anyone who can do so without being fired) goes to work, a day when no one shops or spends money, a day on which we truly make our economic and political power felt, a day when we make it clear: how many of us there are, how strong and committed we are, how much we can accomplish," she wrote. Also No where in the story does the author designate who's to strike. Also, it definitely has liberalism at it's core all the organizations listed are democrat groups.

There is no such thing as an 'illegal immigrant' that's the first real problem here. Liberals have lied for over a decade about that, the reality is illegal aliens aren't and never were immigrants. Now liberal rubes are unable to discern truth from the lies and have confused themselves into thinking criminal scumbags are the same as actual immigrants that have entered the country legally.

If you take note to certain media outlets you will see that even some liberals are moving away from the 'illegal immigrant' tag and trying to push 'unauthorized immigrant' in its stead. The simple reality is that because Trump is enforcing the laws, not calling for 'reform' the illegal tag has become a hindrance because that buffoon Obama failed to enforce the law...

This wasn't my link but it is irrelevant. When general strikes occur, there's always a minimum number of people who'll work in order to ensure that the hospitals can still run and so on...

Again, I fail to see the connection. If you look up in the dictionary, the definition of Liberalism is not "which is affiliated to the US Democratic Party."

I don't mean to be pedantic (even though I'm fully aware that I am right) but I believe we shouldn't distort the true meaning of the word "liberal".

Can I use a vacation day to take off for a "general strike"?

Is it really a system for people to be woefully lacking in self-sufficiency to the extent that they can't "afford" to strike?

Stock up on non-perishables, bank some money for bills, then strike. :p

LOL a strike of immigrants legal and non legal would let people like you know that they are an important part of the work force.

That is, indeed, an example of what I was describing.

What's more, If you provide them with enough entertainment to blunt their thirst for knowledge, information, and culture they are even less likely to go on strike.

You who? We have thriving industries for that, especially in the form of games. No conspiracy about it, no "system" as such; just the eventual consequences of a wealthy, free society.
