OROVILLE DAM Got No Obama Stimulus Funds for Repair in 2009 – A National Tragedy And A Political Failure – State Of California Hangs In The Balance – Town Hall Meeting Scheduled.

    By Pamela Williams

Although the Oroville Dam supplies drinking water to the entire State of California, no politician seemed to care…especially Obama. Almost 200,000 residents north of Sacramento were ordered to evacuate while authorities attempted to repair erosion of the dam’s emergency spillway, which would release “catastrophic” flood waters if it collapsed. We are talking “catastrophic” here! There is no public record of the dam, the tallest in the U.S., receiving any of the federal money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which was intended for repairs to infrastructure around the nation. Other projects that received money from the stimulus package were $2.2 million for sidewalks and $2.5 million for a 205-acre “zero net energy” community on the campus of University of California-Davis. That is Obama for you. What is “zero net energy” anyway?. The California Department of Water Resources denied that it had failed to listen to warnings about the dam’s safety. “We have a very rigorous schedule of inspections that is determined by state and federal regulators,” spokesman Eric See said. No one wants to take any responsibility for the Oroville Dam emergency…no one. But now California Gov. Jerry Brown asked for around $162 million for cleanup, but costs for repairs could hit $200 million. The people of California should be furious with the Liberals who looked the other way while Oroville was a ticking time bomb.

Has anyone figured out where the infrastructure money went? A whole lot of the nation deteriorated under Barack Obama and the press had no answers. This was a "Shovel Ready Job". Both the governor of Kalifornia and Barack Obama missed their chances. I guess the only thing that got “stimulus” funds were signs announcing the repairs that never happened. America should understand that, never in the field of human endeavors have so few stolen so much from so many as the Obama Administration has.
Hey no problem. Once Jerry Brown fully converts Kalifornia to Sorostan he can take out a loan in pesos.
California Progressive Socialist Politicians touting Global Warming, water officials, the media, and others have been pushing the belief that the California drought was permanent and that lake levels would never again reach normal levels, let alone flood stage. Under that mindset, is it really a surprise that the state ignored maintenance of the dam?

With all the cheap labor you'd think they could afford to fix the thing without asking for federal aid.

Interesting. The damn fails & The California Department of Water Resources denies accountability for the failure, claiming “We have a very rigorous schedule of inspections". Hummm....my question is; what good is it to have a "rigorous schedule" if YOU IGNORE the inspection reports!? OR, were the inspectors who did the reports not doing their job?
Cuz....if that's the case, I'd hate to find out these inspectors are assigned to Hoover Damn.

Yep, the amount of money Hollywood spent on Clinton together with the what they're donating to the ACLU & PP would go long way towards "aiding" their fellow Californians.

If she is too stupid to understand such a simple concept, why listen to anything she has to say?

Jerry Brown thinks it's stupid to spend money on dams.

"I've never heard of such utter ignorance. Building a dam won't do a damn thing about fires or climate change or the absence of moisture in the air and ground of California. If they want to run for president, they had better do eigth grade science before they made such utterances."

    Ha!

They are. If we stopped doing cancer research and got rid of sports, we could help people too.

2009 is 8 years ago. 8 years ago there likely was no problems with the dam. Did they even need the money for the dam? I mean seriously people, so desperate to go after Obama you just make fools of yourself.Who do you think you are convincing?

The problem was that the last time they inspected it, they didn't do it by foot, but from a distance, so didn't see the cracks. And that was a lot shorter time than 8 years ago.

Drops mic, the entire premise of the thread (still fixating on Obama for some reason) destroyed

The problem was California priorities on where to spend money. They love the shiny stuff and neglect the real stuff.

"In 2005, a trio of environmental groups filed a complaint with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, saying the emergency spillway was unsafe, The Mercury News reports. Their worry proved prophetic: The groups said in the event of heavy rain and flooding, the hillside would wash out and produce flooding downstream. They asked that the auxiliary spillway be paved with concrete, like the primary one. But the federal government rejected the request after consulting with the state and local agencies involved in the water system, which said they did not believe the upgrades were needed."

Moral of the story: Listen to environmentalists.

... you know, the one's who are warning that climate change will be a million times worse than a failure of the Oroville spillway.

The fact is, this could be a result of climate change. They have had as much rain this year as they normally get all season. Severe drought and flooding are expected due to climate change. California just ended a 14 year drought, and a 4 year super-drought.

Agreed. Dolts are running the country and leading their minions of the ignorant. Same thing happened in Germany in 1939.

I really wish you were smart too! You all killed my country through stupidity.

    Total drivel.

And the cash for clunker's program was hugely successful. When you net it out, we saved billions. But to understand that you have to be able to do math. So this is an exercise left for the lefties.

it has nothing to do with climate change..it has to do with deferred maintenance..the dam is fine...the spillway has a problem..which can be fixed...

Correct, Schwarzenegger was governor until 2011 and Jerry Brown has been governor since. Neither did anything about the infrastructure of the Oroville dam that has been in need of repair far longer than Schwarzenegger was governor.

in 2008 the country went into a huge recession so the funds were not available at that time..but in 2010 funds from the infrastructure funds were used on other projects and denied to repair oroville spillway..
