Trump has apologists because of how the press has historically behaved for the past few decades. I'll freely admit he says a lot of dumb things, but the issue is that while many people who support him know this, they hate the press even more.

Look, even the staunchest Hillary supporter out there would honestly admit that the press itself has been heavily biased towards the Democrats - to the point where when they swear that something is going to happen such as Hill winning the presidency with 99% certainty and the Dems taking the Senate with equal odds, and they get proven wrong on a massive level, well then: You start having what trust people had in that institution eroding. Not that people didn't suspect something was wrong before, but now they have something concrete to point to. Heck, right on this board, is anyone able to take *ndr*w J*cks*n seriously after a thousand posts of his swearing Trump was going to lose big? Now project that disdain on a national level and you have the general feeling regarding the press.

I believe a case can be made that a lot of Trumps support came from people who might not have liked him but were voting against the press (along with the slew of Hollywood Half-Wits) and their telling everyone that Hill was going to win - and that ultimately what happened was a major backlash against the very people telling them how much smarter and better they were over the rest of the country. Let's face it, Hill calling people who weren't going to vote for her "deplorable" - I mean, anyone who studied history at a cursory level should have known that would backfire on her. Heck, look at the song "Yankee Doodle", which was sung by the British who mocked the Americans, and instead it became adopted as a song of defiance against the Redcoats by the very yanks they despised. And that same attitude against people who disagreed with the press as to who should be president practically oozed from them. They were almost begging to be repudiated.

The press has a long way to go to regain America's trust. Look, they could start by having their own Come to Jesus moment, where they freely admit that they ARE biased, then promise to hold democrats feet to the fire as well as republicans - then actually start doing it. That right there takes away half of Trump's ammunition. The press has to start living up the belief people had that they would be fair, unbiased, and simply stick to the facts. But until then, until they start doing that - the press will be seen by many people as the enemy, as a group of elitists who have declared war against people who disagree with them politically instead of just sticking to reporting the facts - and because of that, Trump will have the anger of the hoi polloi at them to tap into and use.

I don't particularly like where we are - nevertheless, it is what it is.

 

So vicious smear jobs and fake news is 'aid' in your mind? lol yeah right; let's ask George Zimmerman how all that 'aid' worked out when your 'free press' did their best to railroad and innocent man into prison on fake charges, along with Obama chiming in to dump kerosene on the fire. All of what you wrote also applies to Republicans. It's just US politics. Your twin parties are much more alike than different. All the big lobbies give money to both (Soros is insignificant when compared to the NRA and AIPAC in influence). One member of either party can easily cross the chamber to the other side without anyone hardly noticing anything.
