In my opinion the self-driving vehicles revolution that capitalists are trying to push on the masses will fail. There is no great desire from the public for self-driving vehicles - this self-driving vehicle push is coming from the capitalists. The people dont actually want to but self-driving vehicles - the capitalists want us to buy self-driving vehicles.

Where I come from you are kind of a homo if you dont drive a manual car. For a lot of people - mostly men - owning an auto is kind of gay. So to us a driverless vehicle would be super dooper next level gay.

So what people are excited about self-driving vehicles? The elites and their paid media minions are very excited about driverless vehicles - but who else? Capitalists claim that Elton Musk has a 'cult following' and that he is Iron Man and the world most loveable billionaire behind Warren Buffet but is there really any truth to this? Does Tesla really have a 'cult' following? Tesla cant even make any money and who are these people that worship Elton and his Tesla vehicles but cannot afford to, or choose not to buy a Tesla vehicle. How many Tesla vehicles have been sold exactly? Apparently Tesla crossed the 100,000 vehicles sold in 2015 - and the claim is that Tesla have sold about 30,000 vehicles this year that puts them at about 130,000 vehicles sold. With all of the free advertizing and PR help Tesla gets from corporate US media you would think Eltons Tesla vehicles would be selling like hotcakes. To me 130,000 vehicles sold is pretty much nothing. If the cult following of Elton Musk is only 130,000 people then like I said - there is no 'cult' following. There are nobodies on youtube that have more fans than Elton Musk. Now I know that all of these Tesla vehicles that have been sold are not self-driving vehicles but it is Elton Musk that the capitalist elites and his claimed cult following that is going to be the main thing driving the sales of driverless vehicle technology apparently. Sure other companies like Volvo and Ford and others are investing in autonomous vehicle technology but it is Elton Musk that capitalists seem to think will be the messiah of driverless vehicle technology. Capitalists seem to think that zombie consumers need some capitalist Steve Jobs-like Ronald McDonald clown to act as the face of a company and of new technology. The capitalist propaganda that created the Steve Jobs legend was not responsible for apple ipod or iphone sales - but capitalists seem to think that Steve Jobs was key. Consumers do not care about Steve Jobs or Bill Gates. There is no need for a company to have some Ronald McDonald clown as the face of the company and no need to have some Ronald McDonald clown as the face of new technology - and not only is there no need - using a Ronald McDonald clown like Steve Jobs or Elton Musk does nothing for the company. All this is is capitalists jerking themselves off.

Would facebook have become popular without having Ronald McDonald clown Mark Zuckerberg as the face of it? Does facebook need a Ronald McDonald clown like Mark Zuckerberg? The media have created Mark Zuckerberg and his legend just like they did with Steve jobs. Does anyone really give a %$%$ about Mark Zuckerberg? Think about it. Facebook is not a success because of mark Zuckerberg - and most people do not have a positive opinion of Mark Zuckerberg. Mark Zuckerberg even looks annoying. He looks like an annoying little %$%$%. Does Mark Zuckerberg have a cult following? Really? Would it matter to facebook if Mark Zuckerberg died tomorrow? Of course it wouldnt matter. nobody gives a %$%$ if Mark Zuckerberg dies. lets face it - more people in the world would probably be happy about Mark Zuckerberg dying than people that would be sad about it. Yet these new capitalists - the Silicon valley freaks seem to think that every company needs a Ronald McDonald clown to act as the face of the company and the broader capitalist system is on board with this nonsense so they go to great lengths to give freaks like Mark Zuckerberg and Elton Musk and Travis Kalanick and Elizabeth Holmes these oh so interesting back stories and a lot is done to present these clowns as capitalist heroes that are using business to ' change the way we live our lives' for the better.. The only problem is that the greatest fans of these clowns are the paid minions that flood the internet to write positive things about their clowns. There is an entire network of so-called 'tech' sites that are dedicated to glorifying these Silicon Valley 'start up' clowns and they will write one article and then publish it in about 100 mirror sites to try to get as many lemming 'techie' freaks to read them as possible. And there are paid minions all over the internet writing PR in comment section and on forums about these Silicon valley clowns. The so-called 'cult' following of these clowns is manufactured and totally false.

So the capitalist think that creating the illusion of a 'cult following' for driverless car clown Elton Musk is going to get people excited about driverless vehicle technology. That is a problem because the ability of the capitalist to manufacture reality has never been weaker than it is right now. Maybe in the past the capitalist media could have claimed that Elton Musk had a cult following and that would make it so, but that is not the case anymore. Elton Musk does not have a cult following and Elton Musk is not going to do much at all to get the masses excited about driverless vehicle technology - especially since Eltons 'autopilot' vehicles have started killing people ( the latest accident was in Germany where a tesla vehicle on autopilot crashed into the back of a bus, and of course Tesla denies that their technology was at fault even though the German police said they were going to investigate why tesla autopilot "didnt work" ) and Tesla always responds by claiming no responsibility while at the same time being snarky jerks. These Silicon Valley aliens that seem to think that manufactured and false internet culture represents popular public opinion seem to believe that snark is what the public appreciate in PR. The %$%$ you all PR style of Silicon Valley companies like Tesla and Uber actually does not play to well in the real world. Silicon valley aliens seem to exist in their own alternate reality.

So who even wants a 'self driving' car anyway? When the company Uber started I was kind of surprised that anyone would want to use something like that when we already have taxis. But then I realized that to many people taking a taxi is very povo. So if you think that you are too good to take a taxi there really wasnt much in between the taxi and hiring a limo. So I figured that the reason for Uber is not just to attack labour laws and help create this so-called 'shared economy' where workers have no rights or protections - another think is that there are a class of people that want to be able to use 'uber Black' rather than to take a povo taxi. And by creating 'Uber X' the elites get the zombies to pay for it, and make it possible to run a luxury car service so that elites so not have to take a povo taxi like the plebs. A lot of these 'elites' - especially from Silicon Valley can afford to buy an Alfa Romeo and can probably drive well enough to get a license maybe but they do not feel confident enough to take a date somewhere in their Alfa Romeos just in case there is no valet parking where they end up going - and their Alfa Romeo is not capable of parking itself in the parking places provided. I think that this is a major reason for our 'elites' to have wanted their Uber Black. Now when elites go on a date they can call an Uber Black if they dont know how to rive their Alfa Romeo instead of having to use a povo taxi and look like a common pleb.

So apparently these so-called 'elites' from Silicon Valley not only do not know how to drive a car - they also do not want to have to drive a car. The 'elites' want cars to drive themselves. But do normal people think this way? Like I said - where I come from a man that drives an auto is considered to be kind of effeminate. And lets face it - driving a manual car is fun. I love smashing through the gears in a manual car from a standing start - it is very fun. And even driving an auto is fun. What will be fun about sitting in a driverless vehicle exactly? Sure self-driving vehicles may hide the fact that Silicon valley 'elites' cant and dont want to be able to drive a car - but why would normal people want self driving vehicles? Why? for the most part it is only going to be homo 'elites' from Silicon valley that cant even park their Alfa Romeos - that take google buses to work - that are going to get excited about 'driverless cars'.

Did so-called 'new 3d' change our lives? No. Did the masses rush out to buy these new 3d tvs that the elites were telling us were the next big thing? No. And what a shock - we had 3d in the 80s and nobody really gave a %$%. big deal. 3d. Meh. And what about so-called 'wearable technology'? I had a calculator watch back in the 80s and it also had a boxing game on it. capitalists sell a few fitness trackers and a few smart watches to lemmings and all of a sudden they are banking on a big wearables revolution. Where is it? Nobody gives a %$%$. Sales for wearable devices have increased how many percent? And from what? nothing? Well it is pretty easy to go from nothing to something isnt it - but that does not mean the something is in any way significant does it. Are the kids rushing out to buy capitalist clown mark Zuckerbergs new VR? No. Nobody gives a %$%$. And has mark Zuckerberg helped - or is his target audience of internet techie types the people that hate him the most? Why is it that when mark Zuckerberg bought Oculus Rift that there was such a massive backlash against the company? Could it be that the target audience and what is supposed to make up part of the core of his base of followers actually hate mark Zuckerberg? And newsflash - real computer people hate apple and they hate Steve Jobs and they hate bill gates. It is computer people that hate apple the most because they think that apple steals other companies and individuals ideas and uses their money and power to crush out the competition. Computer people hate apple the most. The cult following of apple - which I will not deny - is made up of zombie consumers that will buy anything the commercials tell them to buy. And even these people do not give a flying %$%$ about Steve Jobs or Bill Gates. The only people that give a %$%$ about capitalist clowns like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates are capitalists that like to jerk off over themselves. And di people buy up the 'google glass' like capitalists told us we would? no. most people thought that anyone that wanted google glass was a 'gl(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)'. And are people going to rush out to buy these self driving cars? No.

I know a guy that bought a 3d tv. He is a total wanker. he used to own the local news agent where I live. I went in there one morning and this guy told me that he was going to watch the big State of Origin footy match that night on his big 3d tv. See these people - gl(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) types - are more interested in telling people about their up to date consumerism than they are in actually using it. When he told me about his 3d tv I acted polite and tried to share his enthusiasm even though he was actually being a %$% and a big noter bragging about his fantastic tv - but I was thinking to myself - 'Oh my god you are a total %$%$. You are going to sit in your lounge room and watch tv with glasses on your head are you? And why the hell would you want to watch a footy game in 3d? How does that even work? I dont even want to know.' See there are these total wankers among us that will rush out and buy a 3d tv because the signs told them to - but these people are the same people that were called 'gl(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s' for wanting to buy google glass. But even that guy isnt going to buy a driverless vehicle - he owns a top of the line Holden Commodore - that is for driving. Who the hell is going to want a driverless vehicle? it is just utterly stupid.

I consider myself to be a decent driver and quite safe on the roads. I hate the idea of driverless vehicles driving on the same roads as me and the fact that Elton Musk is being allowed by western governments to "beta test" his autopilot vehicles on public roads. The use of "beta test" is another example of capitalists stealing from the internet types that they steal most of their culture from. If a game is released in 'beta' that means that it is unfinished. The snarky and smart ass Elton Musk seems to think that by calling his autopilot a 'beta' version he can lower expectations and maybe he thinks that the masses should accept a few Tesla vehicles killing innocent people on our roads because nobody expect a game that is released in beta to be finished - with a game still in beta you can expect some bugs. The only problem is that the real world is not the freaking internet. Apparently now that Eltons Tesla is getting a lot of bad word of mouth PR due to the fact that his beta 'autopilot' is killing people - Elton has rolled out an 'update'. These gamer people get an 'update' to their beta versions of games to fix the bugs that exist in the game - and that is all well and good for video games but again - this is the real world - not a game or the internet. These Silison Valley people are %$%$ing idiots and a menace to society. And their parents that have given birth to these idiots sons and daughters would be utterly mad to hand over the running of capitalist society to these clueless little aliens that have had everything handed to them in life and were never given any reason to believe that they could fail. But this capitalist offspring are going to fail and they are failing. Uber does not make any money - yet how much to the capitalist parents claim the company to be worth? Tesla does not make any money but how much do the capitalist parents claim the company to be worth? Tesla and Uber will both go the way of Theranos. Elizabeth Holmes was supposed to be the female version of capitalist clown Mark Zuckerberg.Like Elton and Travis a legend was created around Elizabeth Holmes - America youngest self made billionaire. Was she really 'self made' though? Or did she have the full power of the capitalist machine behind her and that is what created her - just like Elton and Travis and their unicorn companies Tesla and Uber. The capitalist machine created Elizabeth Holmes and her Theranos but they did not bother to see if her technology actually worked or see if anyone actually wanted it. With all the power of the capitalist machine behind Elizabeth Holmes did it really matter if her business was total lies and nonsense? Turns out that it did matter. Elizabeth Holmes is no longer reported to be a billionaire - now Elizabeth Holmes is worth nothing. Elizabeth Holmes is worthless - and the capitalist clowns Elton Musk and Travis Kalanick are every bit as worthless as she is.

Lets see how long the snarky and %%%$ you all style of Elton and Travis lasts. At some point these companies are going to actually have to turn a profit instead of running at a loss and it has cost billions to start these companies up. It will be years before these companies see a profit. And both of these companies seem to think that 'self driving' technology' is going to be the key to turning a profit and that establishing themselves as leaders of the self driving vehicle industry is what their future rests on. But the thing is that these geeks that make stupid computers are not the people that I believe will be the leaders of the vehicle industry. In my opinion it will be established vehicle companies that lead the self driving vehicle industry if one can actually be established at some point in the future because these companies are proven and tested and trusted. Silicon Valley types seem to think that google is going to be able to establish itself as a player in the self driving car industry. Who the hell is going to buy a google car? It is stupid. These computer companies may be able to partner with established vehicle companies but I do not see any of them as being industry leading companies selling vehicles with their own badges on them. Most people do not want a Tesla or give a %$%$ about them - especially since they are electric. The amount of people that want an electric self driving vehicle is not going to be enough for Tesla to turn a profit. Ever. It seems that the plan for virtual SOE Tesla which is under the protection of the capitalist machine as well as the US Government is for Tesla to be able to make a profit by selling some sort of carbon credits to other vehicle manufacturers - but I do not even think that will save Tesla and the suckers that have invested money into this non-company. Other established companies like Ford and Volvo will be able to position themselves to sell as many if not more of these carbon credits than Tesla - we already see GM coming out with electric cars like its new GM Chevy Bolt to smash tesla and Ford are working on similar vehicles as are other established and trusted vehicle companies. Anyone that believes that Eltons Musk and his government backed Tesla is ever going to turn a profit are dreaming. And we really should be asking ourselves - what is the point of Elton Musk? Have the capitalists created Elton Musk because they believed that capitalism needed a new Steve Jobs like capitalism clown and is that why Tesla exists? Was Tesla created to justify Elton Musk? Or was Elton Musk created to justify Tesla? And Elton is going to colonize Mars is he? HAAAAAA!!!!!! Oh my God. Who in the word could give a %$%$ about that? Why doesnt Elton do something for Africa if he is so worried about changing the world and 'changing the waty we live our lives'? Mars? I really do wish that Elton would retire to Mars. That would be great. I wish Elton Musk would %$%$ off to Mars and leave us all alone. The public do not need likable billionaires to justify capitalism. capitalists may need them to try to justify corporate salaries and if capitalists want to jerk off over themselves then fine - but the public do not need these clowns in our faces and these clowns do not make us want to support a company. If driverless technology is taken up by the public eventually it will not be because of capitalist clown Elton Musk. What capitalist clown do GM use? If GM has a capitalist clown I am not aware of them - and I really appreciate that. What capitalist clown do Volvo have representing them to us masses? None that I can think of. What capitalist clown do Ford have representing Ford to us supposedly capitalist clown loving masses? Companies do not need capitalist clowns to make consumers buy their products. Brands do not need a capitalist clown like Elton Musk behind them It is far better for a company to allow its brand and products to speak for the company rather than some Silicon Valley capitalist clown that talks like some %$%$ing idiot and will not stop waffling on about their oh so interesting little back stories , and how their 'start up' is going to 'change the way we live our lives '....... through 'disruption'. Capitalist elites - your children are a bunch of worthless ^%^%ing idiots. Look at society and how terribly it is being run with these new Silicon Valley capitalists being handed the keys. Citizens have never been more unhappy. I often wonder why US politicians are mostly 70 years old but my guess is that the real capitalists know that they cannot hand things over to their idiot sons and daughters because their idiot sons and daughters are worthless and they know it. The disparity between 'elite' and the masses has never been narrower in many ways. There has never been less difference between the 'elites' and the masses than there is right now because the new batch of 'elites' are worthless.

What doyou think about self driving vehicles? Are you excited about self driving technology? Do you plan on buying a self driving autopilot vehicle? Or are you going to wait until theya re out of 'beta' and stop killing people?

Do you like driving a car? Do you know how to drive a car? Can you park a car? If you do want a 'self driving vehicle' then why?

My guess is that if you could buy a car that you could drive on your own but that came equipped with a switch-on auto-pilot, most of us would soon be using the auto-pilot almost exclusively. I know that's true for aircraft.

    Driverless cars improving?...

Data: Self-Driving Cars Need Less Human Help Than in Past
February 01, 2017 — Self-driving car prototypes appear to be getting better at negotiating California streets and highways without a human backup needing to intervene, according to data made public Wednesday by California transportation regulators.

To think that we won't see public health arguments banning human driven cars soon after these cars become popular is naive. We will invariably move to ban human driven cars to preserve traffic flow.

As touring the country in a tough, reliable 4wd with parts everywhere, this saddens me greatly. Not sure what I'd do when my battery sh*ts in the bush and I have to go back to the dealership 2000km away to fix it.

I doubt they would be all that good at driving where I drive.

I didn't read anything in the OP, sorry, way too long. But my thoughts on driverless cars, yes I want them. But they have to be hack proof, and I think that is impossible. Everything is hackable. or has to be a manual override that is fool proof so someone can't hack and drive you over a cliff.

Would be awesome not having to worry about driving, safer taking out human errror, and quicker, as poor human drivers cause many traffic delays

But with so many young unempoyed people, who needs a driverless cars? If you don't want to drive, just take the bus/train/metro.

As long as it is easier, but it also can more than double your commute. When my car got totaled I took the bus to work and even though it double my commute (15 to 30 min) I kept riding it even when my car was fixed. But that didn't require transfer and stops were close to my house.

And if somebody asks "How did you drive to work" just say "I didn't, my own driver did it for me".
I enjoy watching the surroundings which is not very possible wheh watching the road (aka driving).

I'm both for an against it.

I love driving. It's one of the few activities that can fully engage my brain.

That said, I understand the why's of having them (better flow control means faster commutes, the ability to take naps or read while heading to and from work, that kind of thing.

The horseless carriage is just a fad anyway.

It won't be long until it will be too dangerous to allow humans to drive. Traffic fatalities will drop like a rock when computers take over. Already the automatic breaking is changing the game.

I don't even want a car that can shift for itself! No way I would want an autonomous vehicle.

I like driving a car, but would rather ride with a trusted driver (or robot). Yes, I can parallel park, and can drive a manual (don't own one, as the advantages of a manual over automatic are minimal these days, that and my wife can't drive a manual, so it would be stupid to own one). I would like to be able to read on the way to work. I would like to be able to sleep on long car trips.

In terms of the whole driving thing, believe it or not, driving is going out of fashion. In the U.S. in 1983, 46% of 16 year olds had driver's licenses. In 2014, that was 24.5%, close to a 50% drop. In terms of 19 year olds, 87% had driver's licenses in 1983, in 2014, it was down to 69%. Driverless cars, especially once Uber starts using them, is going to take over the marketplace. (that said, I have two sons, ages 18 and 16, and both got their driver's licenses at age 16).

I thought someone said here that private care ownership will go away. Just call an automatic Uber. Why should millions of people all own cars that sit 90% of the time? Maybe it was in another thread. I kept thinking about that and there is a problem. Many of us need cars all at the same time. They may sit 90% of the time, but most are sitting unused at the same time.

I have reduced vision and can therefore not obtain a license, so I welcome driverless cars more than anyone. :D

One of the future phases of the
AI encroachment inside the automobile industry is private non-ownership. Automobile manufactures will collude with software developers to license the AI software that operates these solar-powered electric vehicles. Most private ownership will cease to exist. In the future, driverless vehicles will be government mandated in the name of public safety and environmental protection.

Vehicles for the masses will be leased (time share) from the manufacturer. There will be exceptions for the elite: including certain politicians, corporate executives, select celebrities and high profile athletes, and the like. Even a more select circle of members of this elite group will also be granted grandfather permission to retain property ownership rights and privileges to drive (manually) all forms of combustion engine vehicles.
    It's a brave new world.

Long live the combustion engine and manual transmissions.

The driverless concept is old hat, nothing new, it failed before.
I suppose one day it perfected with an occasional catastrophy as we have with every Enterprise.
One Future day, we will have regular individual and commercial Space travel, and driverless ground transportation will be a moot issue.
