I haven't played around here from my PC since the switch.

    Files? Like original text, audio/video?

    That might be fun.

Hi, Chris, how are you? Yeah, I was just checking to see if the owner had announced that yet. We had a couple of options for the gallery add-on, and we spent a day or so kicking them around. I think this one will be good, but if people would rather have one with more features, let us know. The nice thing about this one is that it does not seem to slow down the browser at all, and it seems to offer all the essential features.

So - galleries are back in business, folks. Let us know if there are any issues, OK?

I'm just getting back online after about 12 hours off, so I have some catching up to do. I will have many more updates in this thread over the next couple of hours. I know there are a lot of questions and concerns backed up a bit, but I plan to hit 'em all before I go to bed.

Hi, Chris, how are you? Yeah, I was just checking to see if the owner had announced that yet. We were working together round the clock the first day and a half or two days, then we started to fall into a pattern where one of us would just fall asleep and sleep to whenever, and while we were asleep the other one would fall asleep at some point and get up whenever, and we fell completely out of synch. There are always a couple of parts of the day were we are both awake at the same time, and then we catch up, but it just happens when it happens. When one of us wakes up, we PM the other one, so I may hear from her before I fall asleep again tonight.

Probably anything audio/video that you have stored on your computer. :) That makes me VERY happy.

Well, I don't know about other people, but I am VERY pleased with the changes. It's better and more fun here already! :) Thank you and the other mods/admins for all of your hard work.

    For sure!

The possibilities are endless, depending on software compatibility, & storage caps, of course.

    EDIT:

I wonder where the site's servers are located. DCMA can be a pain RE: multi-media uploads. Fair use etc..

That's just the beginning. Xenforo packs a powerful punch, with a wide variety of toys to play with. We're never gonna get carried away and go all in, because the more scripts you stack on top of one another, the more you degrade performance, but there are some things we want to do with the site that will require enabling more add-ons - and I think the members will like the way it shakes out.

It's clear that some of the people in this thread have admin experience themselves, and evidently considerable Xen experience as well. I've been making note. If y'all ain't averse, I hope to pick your brains a bit as we start to pivot from the installation and stabilization phase to the enhancement stage. Meanwhile, thank you very much for your contributions.

No, not at all. That's really weird. Can't think of any immediate answer to that one. No good reason for that at all.

Give me a day, and I think we'll have that solved. Maybe sooner, but just don't want to overpromise in case some of the other things on the list take more time than I expect. But yeah, this should be fixable.

Mmmmm.... yeah, you're right that it's not a top priority, but believe it or not, it's been bugging the hell out of me for at least a couple of days. So I would certainly say it's a priority, because I think a lot of people find it jarring.

To be honest, though, we're going to give it a day or two. Something needs to fill that space, but we want to think about how to use that space. Don't want to fill it just for the sake of filling it. It might take a little while, because we're so locked into thinking "function" right now, none of us are feeling very creative.

Have you any thoughts on what sort of thing would go well there? More graphics, something functional, some sort of extended logo? We're open to ideas, if anyone has some suggestions.

Yep. Fixed. Sorry about that. Definitely not one of my smartest moves so far this week.

Oh, well, live and learn. Hopefully that's the worst mistake I make in this whole thing!

Yguy, can you tell me a little more about what you're seeing and how it relates to the ignore feature? It sounds like the way the ignore list is supposed to work, unless I'm misunderstanding something. I want to get this fixed, but what am I missing? You've been around forever, so I know you wouldn't mention it unless there's something pretty out of the ordinary.

Thanks for your help, and sorry that I'm not getting it.

Emoticons are an absolute priority, but that one's on the owner's list, not mine. Not trying to evade the issue, just saying that we have defined areas of focus that we agreed on, and we try not to overlap because we don't want to inadvertently mess up something that the other one is doing. Granted, it's not like this is a major issue, but we still have a procedure to follow, so I don't want to cross over.

My understanding as of Wednesday was that it was on her list for that day. Doesn't seem to have been done yet, so I'm assuming it will be done by the time I get up Thursday. I'll check as soon as I'm awake.

Flags and stuff like that.... I loved that too, and yeah, I think we need that on a site like this. I don't know where it is on the list, but I want that back too.

I'm inclined to expand the fonts too, but we're not sure. People complain about different fonts making it difficult to follow a thread from one post to another, and while that has a certain validity to it, I'm not sure yet whether it matters that much. I could go either way, myself. The owner is probably going to make the call, and when I talked to her, I couldn't tell where she was at on it.

Tell you what - if she doesn't add it, and it bothers you at all, just pester me again. If it's important enough to a few people, that would matter.

I personally do not like the Alerts function as opposed to the former "Notifications" section.

In attempting to respond to several alerts it is difficult to track and know for certain which alerts have or have not been marked.

Agreed, "notifications" was just your post quotes and likes. "Alerts" seems to include simple replies in a thread where you've posted. It would be useful to have the option to lose that latter category, or just lose it completely.

    Misunderstood. My fault.

In the previous system clicking on Notifications would allow you to look at different types of notifications on a separate page.

From there you could respond to another user's comment then hit the "back arrow" to redisplay the list.

This version requires scrolling, always from the bottom of a page, to the top to click on Alerts and try to differentiate new alerts from the previous list.

I think the previous functionality was more manageable.

I assume the old format was the current logo placed on a matching background colour, which made it look like the logo extended right the way across. Redoing that would at least look better as it'd lose the current "randomly plonked on" effect. Or just fiddle the current logo with an added 400 pixels or whatever's needed to make it span all the way to the right. That would be at least a stop gap.

Beyond that, and assuming there's no option for the admin text of the old format (which would solve the problem), the safest way would be to employ a designer to come up with ideas. That'd cost a bit, but a well-designed header does a vast amount for a site.

Maybe an audience going both left and right with the speaker in the middle, ie. an extension of the current design.

OK I am responding to a post and I find a website to use and swipe the headline which on that website is a BOLDED six point font. It gets pasted into my post with that formatting. I copy the rest of the text which is in a normal font and then paste it into the text it gets pasted as the bolded six point font and I have to highlight and change it.

Even my sentence above, I bolded and increased the font to demonstrate and now can't get it back to the original font size, this is 5,
    this is 4.

The old forum did not bring text formatting over a bold big headline was pasted in as the normal text and then I could make it bold or increase size without affecting the rest of the post.

I think it's just a consequence of using the Rich Text Editor.

    Numbered Uploads.
Easier to PM someone and communicate
    "Hey, check out this upload"
And the number led to a direct URL link to that upload too.

Can we get additional formatting options like [SUP] and [SUB] like we had on the old forum?
