How dangerous? I work a lot of nights in industrial and downtown neighborhoods all over the US, and I still have never had to use my gun. I've worked from Orlando, LA, Cleveland, Anchorage, Atlanta, Dallas, Philadelphia, Washington D.C, Denver, ...................... all at night. Never needed my gun once, but I've also never hurt anyone or even scared anyone once. There are 13 million people carrying just like me with similar results or at least not committing crimes and using their guns lawfully.

No, the people in Vermont simply recognize the merits of an armed citizenry and its deterrent effect upon crime. Or maybe you don't know that Vermont has a per-capita homicide rate lower than anywhere else in the United States? Lower even than the per-capita rate in the that gun-control Utopia, the UK?

Do you possess insurance for yourself, your place of residence, and your motor vehicle? A fire extinguisher? A smoke and/or carbon monoxide detector? A spare tire and jack for your motor vehicle? A first aid kit? Do the doors to your place of residence possess locking mechanisms? Do you actually use them? If so then why? Do you live in a constant state of fear of something going wrong in your life? What possible reason could you have for possessing any one of these implements?

A gun is some pretty poor insurance. My smoke detector and insurance agent are not likely to accidentally kill my children. I don't wake up in the middle of the night and attempt to jack up my car while half asleep. I keep poison control's number on my fridge, though, and I always wear my seatbelt. For that matter, I don't pig out on junk food, because we're all more likely to die from that than someone breaking into our homes.

A smoke detector, insurance agent aren't going to protect your children from the local sexual predator or criminal breaking into your home in the middle of the night. I don't wake up in the middle of the night half asleep and shoot at people, do you? I keep the sheriff departments number on my fridge as well as the poison control number, I wear a seatbelt while driving, I don't text and drive, I eat healthy, I have a fire extinguisher, life insurance, health insurance, CO2 detectors, and a cell phone for emergencies just in case...all because I like being prepared...what was your point?

It's unlikely at this stage of the game. I don't go places I'm likely to need one and my one mile square town has eight police officers. People in town just recently started locking their doors because the police told them that they really shouldn't leave them unlocked anymore. I never had a key for my front door. It's that kind of place.

Many here, including me have and using one has saved my life, but I have never used the fire extinguishers I keep. Both my girls received training with guns from an early age, including gun safety as was I when young. You make your choice not to have one (your right) and I will make mine(my right).

I've never needed an abortion. Does everyone have to have suffered an attack before any one should be allowed to be capable of effective self defense?

Every place isn't that kind of place. According the the DOJ report "Victimization During Household Burglary", 2010, over one million home invasions where a resident is home happen each year, and over 25% of those attacks result in death or injury, including sexual assaults.

Never say never and never say always. You might as well put up a sign on your front yard that says FOOD.

What is the criteria you use in determining such?

Nor will they be available to you in a situation that occurs beyond the confines of your home.

Which ultimately it not relevant to the discussion.

How likely are you to be involved in a poisoning or a motor vehicle accident? What are the statistical percentages to show that such is a likely development you will be faced with?

And according to same sources, you are more likely to die from being hit by lightning, than be killed in a terrorist attack. Yet terrorism is regarded as a far more significant threat than bad weather.
