I think 20 - 30 years ago China was happy to have an anti American dictator next door because their own relations with America were strained. Things have changed since then and even more so since Xi Jingping have taken charge.
I have been encouraged by how well Trump and Jingping's meetings went and also with China's support in reigning Pyongyang in.

The problem is how Jong Un will respond since he is being driven into a corner, Seoul is very close to the border. So Trump decided to choose, put 50 million South Korean's at risk vs 100 000 Americans that could potentially die on the US west coast, if Jong Un manage to reach America with his long range nuclear ballistic missiles (which is only a few years away).

China will not side with Russia, they have a different agenda for the future, while America and Russia goes around spending billions bombing other countries, China's economy continues to grow (they upgraded by 0.3% in January) and soon they will be at the top of the world. I also think Putin will settle for Syria and Crimea (in the short term).

 

Yes I was aware of the emerging cheap labour countries like Vietnam (but many of those he mentions in the vid I didn't know of) and China's move away from cheap and nasty to servicing it's own market

The U.S. doesn't have any invasion fleets off of NK.

There's only one Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) in the 7th Fleet AOR that has one MEU, that's one reinforced Marine rifle battalion. (2,200 Marines)

Even the USS Carl Vinson CSG is being reported by the MSM as being a Carrier Strike Group (CSG) but it's missing a couple of it's escorts.

The U.S. Navy hasn't put a Carrier Battle Group to sea since G.W. Bush was CnC.

Remember, President Trump inherited Obama's PC Navy.

I think that vid is outdated, they upgraded forecast in January by 0.3%, I think they are being more cautious and honest with their forecasts than in the past. There were times when they inflated their economic forecasts and devalued the Yuan to keep their exports cheap. They have done much in the last 5 years to change this. We are seeing a different China emerge, one that will be worthy of world leadership, I think this is China's vision.

An MEU is an invasion force. It's purpose is not to decorate the sea.
It is to deploy a brigade of marines onto enemy soil.
Nor do I think a couple of missing escorts makes a carrier strike group any less of a threat to NK. How would you strike NK's nuclear facilities?
Would you mount an invasion... or air strike?
Cruise missiles is most likely to my mind. NK probably has a kick arse air defence system. (I'm waiting for an enemy to shoot down cruise missiles. Got to happen one day).

There is one MEU permamently in deployment range of NK and at least once a year, America and allies war game off the shore of Korea to show them what it can do to them. Invasion practise, any one of which might not be a practise at all.

They need nukes. Iraq has taught them if no nukes, then "next".
America has been threatening them constantly since the 50's. It's no wonder they are like they are.

A MEU is an amphibious unit, back when I served they use to be called Battalion Landing Teams (BLT). I made two combat amphibious assaults in Vietnam with BLT 1/26. In fact the last two amphibious assault conducted during the Vietnam War, Operation Defiance Stand and Operation Bold Pursuit.

A regimental size Marine amphibious assault are Marine Amphibious Brigades (MAB) formerly known as Regimental Landing Team.

A Marine Amphibious Force is division size consisting of three rifle regiments, one artillery regiment and all of the combat supporting arms like tanks, etc..

The U.S. Navy is incapable to putting an entire Marine division on the beach today. You can thank President Clinton for that.
