One of Trumps main draws for people is the border security and immigration. The Left has been ridiculing this since he started talking about it, and he fights the travel delay from specific countries still.

It appears Australia is taking some of the same steps many who voted for Trump would like to take. So those who disagree with Trump.....is Australia wrong also?

It's not just Australia; Mexico has been way ahead of them and us in this game.

America's citizen process already does this.

    Huge distinction.
Trump wants to prevent some people from entering the country -
Your post talks about citizenship rules -
    2 separate items.
I support English language requirements for citizenship - either in the US or Australia.
My parents were immigrants to the US - they had to learn the structure of the US government and answer questions about the government - questions asked and answered in English. That made sense to them, and makes sense to me.
I feel virtually anybody should be allowed to visit - only known criminal elements excluded - Trump wants to ban Muslims.

Not saying it doesn't, but much talk has been made by the left that we shouldn't do this, we should take in as many as can make it here. There is no such thing as an "illegal" immigrant. Clearly other countries disagree with this belief.

You are correct in that there is a distinction here that I failed to address....my bad.

I do also agree with you're last line, especially what I have bolded, but I believe the main problem is that people are coming to "visit", but never leave.

That is a problem here, as well.
The largest component of illegal aliens in the US are not those who cross the Mexico border, but arrive by plane and overstay visas.
A border wall (regardless of who pays for it) will not stem illegal immigration.

Not really, Mexican guy Ramos puts the number at 40% which means it's probably less. Why would people fly when the can just walk across the border? This is especially true since most illegal are Mexicans, poor Mexicans who can't afford a plane ticket or passport.

What is happening in Australia with this policy is that the PM is appealing to the more nationalistic of us. He is in deep trouble in the polls, his governments is literally useless, he is getting heat from within his own party and the right wing nationalists are grabbing some of the conservative vote. This is a shout out to the xenophobes - of which we have many. It's not a big change at all. It is all about the "optics" as they say. Please take no serious notice of it.

    This is not true.

Trump doesn't want to "ban" Muslims.

    Stop making crap up!

Don't argue YOUR point of view...

Just claim the other side is a few buzzword names and call it a day.

ISIS loves you! So do drug cartels.

Millions visit, never leave, and Democratic officials hide and shield them from deportation. So they are not "visitors." They actually are open border immigrants without citizen or permission to stay - other than the Democratic Party wants to give them everyone permission to come and stay.

That may all be true, but it's also true that the Left is very keen for us to 'take no serious notice of it'. Despite being on the left myself, this makes me realise just how seriously we should be taking it. Not the initiative, but what it means in terms of the swing away from the left. Wolf whistles are pointless if no one is listening. Clearly, people have started to listen.

And you are wrong. The ban is not on muslims, its on 7 specific countries with strong terrorist links - Iraq, Iran, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Libya and Somalia. Yemen, Libya and Somalia are basket cases run by variants of al Qaeda / Muslim Brotherhood. Sudan is a terrorist hotbed combined with corrupt govt. Iran is obviously a source of terrorism and violence, and an enemy of the USA. Syria is a mess and there is no way to filter out the good from the bad. Iraq is the only one that might be removable from the list.

No need for me to put an argument, it's an explanation of domestic policies in Australia.

We should always take notice and be prepared to deal with whatever comes at us. But this is our domestic politics, not policy, politics. It's axiomatic that any country should be able to control immigration. How they do it is up to them. I wouldn't understand any other country's immigration policies like a local would, I wouldn't be able to appreciate the reality.

Australia has a pretty effective immigration system. This latest burst of rhetoric from our federal government is to try and neutralise another right wing party (Pauline Hanson's One Nation - think Marine LePen without the brains) that it thinks is going to cut its lunch on immigration. Hanson has form for this. And the regular conservatives (confusingly called the Liberal Party in Australia) are again trying to neutralise here xenophobic appeal. Make no mistake, Australia has a great many xenophobic voters who will vote solely on that issue). The other thing they're trying to achieve is to try to paint Labor (who are ahead in the polls) as being soft on immigration.

Banning 10% of Muslims from countries identified by Congress and the previous administration is hardly a Muslim ban.

Mexico has proven they are willing to prevent migration from below their country. For instance next to railroad tracks, they have concrete posts designed to knock off humans.

I keep searching google and youtube but saw them about a week ago.

But this might also help understand Mexico's problem with illegals.

Particular people from particular countries. But he approves allowing Muslims in from even up to a hundred countries. And his motive is to keep Americans safer.

My former step children's father fled to Australia and when they found him out, they got rid of him. He ended up in a variety of countries.

Here is his self told story that leaves out important details.

I last saw him at my youngest daughters wedding some years ago.

He campaigned on a muslim ban.
I know, just one of many, many briken promises, but he was pretty clear -
“total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on.”
