Hi all, As someone who has a fair amount of music in my background, I listen to a lot of music. It can be whatever, but I generally rock out with rock, specifically newer rock. I am familiar with all of the well-known artists such as the Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and etc, but I love discovering new artists and/or songs that are not known as well and don't receive much attention. I thought I would start a thread where we could turn each other on to some of the lesser-known rock songs out there by sharing songs via links from YouTube. The only guidelines are whatever songs you link must be in the rock genre (can be any type of rock; classic rock, nu-rock/metal, alternative rock, rap rock/metal, punk rock, etc) and must not be well known. I know we all know at least a couple of obscure songs that others would love to hear, so don't be shy; if you've got a song to share, share it! And if you want to hear something you've never heard before, check out what others have posted.
Coming from Australia I'm, not really sure what local music qualifies as 'unknown' to people elsewhere. I'll throw in a bunch of local indie stuff and see how I go. This is a bunch of 16 year old Melbourne kids called 'God' circa 1987. The bass player, Tim Hemmensly, went on to form one of the great live bands of all time. He ODed on heroin about 10 years ago. So did the guitarist. The lead singer, Joel Silbisher, is still performing in Melbourne.
The Stems were an 80s psychedelic revival band from the 80s. I was fortunate to see their last ever Australian show a few years back.
After God Tim Hemmensley went on to form the Powder Monkeys with big John Nolan on guitar & Timmy Jack Ray on drums. Sadly there is no footage I can find that truly captures how good they were live. On an average night they could strip paint off the walls. On a good night lives were in danger. This footage was taken at the venue where I first saw them.
Chances are if it doesn't have many views on YouTube, it's not well-known anywhere in the world. Listened to the first song, and it's not bad. I'll definitely check out the other two when I have some free time tomorrow. Something else for the thread...."Cherry Lee" by Dover.
This is UK band from The South Coast who I met when I was 16 in Croydon and they gave me their demo which I took to America. They had this sound that reminded me of those old Shockwaves adverts/commercials.
