Once you get into it it's real easy to get demo's and idea's down and even develop them. I've been working on hunting show music now for a while --- sometimes just 30 second loops, to full 5 minutes guitar / piano type background music. Tracktion and Audacity I've used, but really a full multi-track software program even like Garage Band or Cakewalk would allow you to drop in 10-24 tracks or more depending on your PC/Mac.

This guy, Nelson has been working on solo work under the name Elocine since the early 2000's. After talking with him at a gig in Philadelphia I took the plunge and bought a used Mac, new Logic software, a few mics and USB based DI (For guitars, bass and MIC's I generally use Line 6 Pod Studio UX2. It gets real addictive and a great outlet for creative music work and it builds a portfolio of work that could be used to either sell your work, distribute it via facebook or other outlets, and can be used to take the next step which would be to get with a management company and start placing your work in TV and other productions.

Back in the days when I was in a three piece we used some basic midi-tracks that I used Jammer Pro to create and still have that but recently got the PC version of Band-in-a-Box. Didn't know Garage Band was now out for PC.

    I use Finale for arranging/composing.

I've spent much time in the studio playing bass on commercials, play-a-long tracks and
    typical recordings for writers/soloists/arrangers...

Both of my parents are musicians, many of my aunts and uncles are musicians, we had a recording studio in our basement when I grew up (still do, not in the basement tho lol), every family gathering was a jam session growing up and still is usually. I'm a producer and engineer that did makes rap beats and instrumentals and actually made good cash doing it, I also play guitar and piano...

My musical background is probably the blues, but rock played a big role too - classic rock...

I haven't produced anything of substance in over a year, my bread and butter was rap and I am growing away from that genre at my age (35) and am reverting more to my roots...

Music has played a huge role in my life..... Hell, my parents only met because my uncle was looking for a singer and piano player for his band (my father was in) and that's how he met my mother.....

I was created because of music...

I've actually been getting into spinning..

Sad reality for me. 80's music is being called classic rock.

For me too.... The stuff I (or we) grew up listening to is now "classic rock" - it's not even the 80's it's the early 90's as well..

The stuff I remember listening to when I was 12-13 (hair bands and bands like NIN, Alice In Chains or Metallica is now "classic rock"... Man it makes me feel kinda old lol... Of course what was considered classic rock when I was growing up are basically "oldies" now lol.... Naw, actually the local classic rock station actually still plays the stuff from the 70's...

I remember when I was a kid (younger, perhaps 8-9) there really wasn't such a thing as "classic rock" there was the oldies station and they played stuff from the 60's..

    Naw, that's the oldies...

When I was a kid we had the "oldies" station and then classic rock which was basically who's who from the 70's... Of course the modern rock station at the time played rock from 80-92...

The "classic rock" station I listen to now plays anything from 70 to 92... It wouldn't be odd to hear the Beatles go back to back with Metallica.

Honestly I don't know if there is even an "oldies" station in Chicago anymore.... I remember the station was called Magic 104.3 with a guy named Dick Biondi as the DJ..

DUDE! Tres Hombres is ULTRA bad ass Texas Blues AND should be considered as
    Classique Rock!

    Good job!

I believe I've seen ZZ Top more than any other band. They ROCK!

By the way, I'm a classical player. I've spent the past 30+ years playing symphonic music in
the bass section of a professional orchestra.

ROFL I've been thinking about the same thing. I finally actually have a nice little music room where the band now rehearses. But want to do so solo recording and stuff on acoustic and thinking one of those or the bass type ones would be nice to have to add some live percussion rather than trying to program percussion tracks.

I play the guitar. I mainly stick to metal, math rock, and some jazz. I'm thinking of buying a violin soon as well.

I bought a cello at a estate sale. It's carved, not plywood, and has a lovely
flamed back. I bought it on the condition that they throw in a carbon bow that
was hanging on the wall. It's not very good but darn sight better than the
fiberglass (I call them disposable) bow that was with it.

Right now it sounds like it has a cold. Very stuffy. It hasn't been played for
a couple of years so that's understandable. It's starting to open up.

I can do some random stuff on the piano that fools the untrained ear. Learned a few songs by ear, but really I suck. I should take some classes but I lack the motivation.

I recorded this in 2011, this was just after I walked in the door and wanted to show off my new guitar pickups.
