    So if we're agreed that the only function of ratings is to ensure a healthy cash flow, why is it then that Fox is always held up as the conservative's gold standard for accuracy in reporting. Because they don't understand that a rating isn't a mark of excellence, and 'more' means 'better'?

    . I think you are missing the point...that more ratings mean more profits for the station. Which means that Colbert should be concerned about keeping up ratings so that he can keep his job.

    He showed contempt for Trump Voters...
    a sizable group of viewers. It was a bad business decision on his part.

    I think Colbert will be fine. Nobody likes Trump.. Politicians don't like him because he's insulting. Other wealthy men don't like him because he has no class at all. He has a populist base.. Not particularly well educated. He claims he's their guy. ...
