Abbas is now ready to restart peace negotiations with Israel. This is WITHOUT any pre-conditions like a settlement construction freeze. He has also declared that he will be willing to do land swaps with Israel, so Israel can keep some of their illegal settlements, in exchange for quality Israeli land bordering the West Bank or Gaza. If true, this is actually a very big deal.
Seems they've been there and done that a bunch of times. I'd feel a lot more confident if Abbas actually had the political capital to make such a radical departure from 70 years of intransigence.
The PA must have realized that: -the gravy train of money might be coming to an end -hamas is getting stronger with iranian aid -Trump is not obama, is not going to kiss abbas' a$$ or ring, and that the sophistic BS/terrorism the pals keep pulling will no longer be tolerated
If it's true, we will see a massive spike in terrorist activity to try to derail any chance at peace. If the Israelis are smart, only ask for a formal acknowledgment of Israel. As soon as that happens, open the flood gates of aid into Palestine.
If you look back at the peace process since 1990 when Oslo was initiated, EVERY TIME there are discussions like this iran initiates a terrorist attack/war by one of its proxy terrorist groups. As long as the world's #1 state sponsor of terrorism - iran's current filth regime - exist, peace is simply impossible in the middle east.

Here is my idea for a good peace treaty #1. Land swaps will be a maximum of 5% of the West Bank. Palestine will be compensated with quality land adjacent to the northern half of the West Bank. Land swaps may be contigous with the State of Israel up to 10 km into the West Bank. Any land sought by Israel further than 10 km must be solitary land surrounded by land under Palestinian authority. #2. The Old City of Jerusalem will be under shared soverignty, including UN participation if requested by the Palestinians. Palestine will be allowed to annex Arab neighborhoods within "East Jerusalem", to be part of their capital city. #3. A maximum of 250,000 refugees will be allowed to come to Israel and swear allegiance to the State of Israel and swear to uphold its laws. Number can be increased for family unification purposes, if Israel agrees. Only 1st generation refugees and their children will be allowed to qualify for return. All other refugees may return to the State of Palestine and file for compensation for lost properties inside Israel. #4. A fenced in road from Gaza to the West Bank will be built, with several bridges to allow unimpeded Israeli traffice underneath. #5. An international fund to assist in the rebuilding of Palestine shall be created, with the goal of $50 billion in assistance over 15 years. #6. Israeli settlers who do not fall within the land-swap areas will be allowed to stay in the State of Palestine, as citizens of Palestine, under Palestinian law with UN monitoring. Those who refuse such an arrangement will be returned to Israel. #7. Israel and Palestine will have FULL diplomatic and economic relations, with no tafiffs or trade barriers between them. #8. There will be joint Israeli and Palestinian monitoring of the Jordanian border for a period of 10 years, extended if Palestine agreed. #9. Palestine will be a demilitarized state, with no heavy weapons or artillery or air force. They will possess weapons needed for local police and peace keeping, only. The exterior security of the State of Palestine will be defended and maintained by the State of Israel and the Kingdom of Jordan, until such time those two nations agree to other situations.
The pity is that there will be no peace treaty with NuttyYahoo. NuttyYahoo wants to start a war and have "big brother" - the US - back him up. He went before the UN years ago and argued Iran was months away from nuclear weapons, is against the treaty with Iran that is WORKING, and continues settlements in areas that will have to be ceded if there is to be peace. When the Israelis elect a new, rational leader, there is a chance for peace.

Olmert already offered such plan to Abu Mazen. Abu Mazen did not sign. Hence, this plan was already had the oppurtunity it needed to see if the Arabs will acecpt it, that such plan is everything that they want. However, it did not happen. Such plan was failed.
