I'm looking forward to this college football season, I hope my Florida Gators goes to the SEC. For those who watch college football, who do you think is going to come out on top this year?
Lived in SW Florida for 25 yrs, and loved those Gators. They had some great teams and a great coach. I have since moved to North Carolina, and NC basketball is the name of the game, so we will see.
Who is going to compete with Florida in the SEC east this year? I'm curious as I only really keep up with the SEC west.
big gator fan by default, but I rarely if ever watch the games, but I'm pretty religious about checking the results. Did UF get a decent QB yet?
that may well be true here is the pre-season poll: http://www.ncaa.com/news/football/a...ap-preseason-top-25-long-way-how-things-ended Conference rivalries have a big impact on the final standings. The competition often is so intense that players get injured and teams fall in the standings. It's gonna be one long and highly competitive season ahead!
some say it will be Georgia: https://www.seccountry.com/florida/...da-not-georgia-will-win-sec-east-one-key-area For many years I used to read pre-season reports and watch Bill Fleming's analyses on ABC-TV. Stopped doing that a while ago but am now doing it again as it can be lots of fun and add enjoyment to watching D1 college football.
Some say it is Georgia every year. Spurrier used to barb them when he was quoted, "Kind of strange isn't it. Every preseason GA is the favorite in the East, has the best players, yet somehow we manage." Spurrier was 11-1 against UGA. His only loss was when he hard-headedly decided to throw too much in the second half instead of giving Fred Taylor the rock every carry. The Gators have a chance to be VERY good this year if they get even half-assed QB play. I'm a little worried about the D though. They sent like 8 players to the NFL this year. However, the backups on defense last season were damned near as good as the starters. I just don't know how deep they are.
Georgia is the Atlanta Braves of the 1990s (except for 1995 when Atlanta won). High expectations but not following through all the way.
The key to success in D1 football is bench depth. Nowadays the season is awfully long (compared to the past when teams averaged only 9 games per season). Because of that, some schools that have better incoming freshman classes may not succeed because their benches lack the depth of others who have red-shirted or have had transfers into their programs.
Which is why this playoff is utterly stupid. The BCS , while not perfect, was much better. If you're not in the top 2 at season's end, then screw you, yes, that includes my team.
EXACTLY. The season is long enough. But certain financial interests want to maximize their profits and use the NCAA as their minor league. To make matters worse, some players wind up with 4 years of college in which they never show up for class and a trip to bankruptcy court.
Those that end up in bankruptcy have no one to blame but themselves. They get a paid for education and if they don't take advantage of it and end up broke, so what? By the way, there are strict rules about attending classes and suspensions for those that don't show.. The chance of making an NFL team from college is astronomical and I'm quite sure from day one they are told as much. The alternative of course is to get a degree and prepare for a life after football. It's up to the individual.
Not sure why you brought the President into a sports conversation, The President survived those anyway. I don't hold much hope for a dummy that was given the opportunity a lifetime only to squander it by not completing or taking their studies seriously.
Wrong, everyone in the country has the same rights, opportunity to be the best that they can be. Didn't your parents tell you the harder you work the luckier you get?
I'm trying to figure out why the left wing is bringing up Trump in a Florida Gator/SEC thread. Must be the utter shock of Hillary getting owned in the election
They can't help it and on page 7 of the new progressive/liberal play book it says " bring up how bad Trump is regardless of the conversation".
Unlike the Florida Gators, the liberals get PTSD from firing an AR15 and Hillary losing the election. Case n point
No. 24 Florida beats 23rd-ranked Tennessee on Hail Mary http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/college/sec/university-of-florida/article173762731.html That was an awesome finish - kinda like Doug Flutie to Gerard Phelan.
No it was Butch Jones being too stupid to get out of his own way. The play calling was atrocious all the way around... both sides. It was a case of somebody had to lose by rule. No ties. There is a whole lot of liberal retardedness in Hogtown these days. Poor coaching and an administration that doesn't know how to win anymore. UF has 10 suspended players that would be playing if in Tuscaloosa. There would be a free ATM machine in each and every locker there. Instead, suspensions that are not NCAA imposed. This is what happens in counties and administrations run by Democrats. This is coming from a Gator fan.
