It seems hard to accept, I know. But Julius Rosenberg was accused of being a Soviet Spy. But this is about his wife, not him. Maybe he was guilty.

She was put to death charged with typing. Yes, you read it here. She died for using a Typewriter.

Her two sons have fought to get her exonerated explaining she never typed anything.

I was in High school and well recall the day they both were executed in the electric chair.

One more thing. In those days, you never spent zillions of years on death row. Not in most states nor due to Federal crimes. It was a short period from the conviction to the execution.

As a then teen, I did not know what to make of all of this. We were then used to seeing Russia as our mortal enemy.

Yes, they were both "innocent" until their co-defendant finally confessed that they were spies, and then it became, "Mom was framed". She wasn't executed for using a typewriter. She was executed for being a spy and she and her husband significantly damaged our country by handing over military technology to the Soviets, costing many people their lives.

And one wonders how much things in the country have actually changed since then.

Seems to be entering very shaky ground morally when people can be executed for taking sides in a conflict that hadn't really escalated to war yet.
Because try as we might, there is no thick clear dividing line between war and peace. There are always conflicts going on at some level. People lose rights and liberties when a war is going on. In this case, it was a Cold War. In today's geopolitical landscape, the modern equivalent might be terrorism.

Robert, are you a retired police officer by any chance?

She should have smashed the typewriter with a sledge hammer.

Martin Sobell said he was a spy for the Soviets but did not say he passed along critical nuke secrets to them. Furthermore, he said Ethel was just a bit player in all that and was only guilty of being Julius's wife.

Years ago the politically correct right wingers objected to President Obama supposedly ordering the execution of an American by the name of Anwar al-Awlaki and called him a tyrant for doing so. These same geniuses, however, had no objection to the murder of two Americans in the Rosenbergs by their party.

No, she was executed by alleging she typed documents. Her husband was executed for his role in spying for the Soviets.

I then was a High school student and believe me, this was then top news. But for the life of me, I recall no other defendants. Their sons so far as I am aware do not exonerate Dad, just Mom.

Point 1, I know nothing of your claims over Obama.
Point 2. I still think Julius was involved. Not clear he should have been executed.
Ethyl might well have been his wife in both name and deed and not know a thing about his secret actions.

Back in those days, the overall mood so far as I recall is we were mortified to learn how the Soviets got the nuclear bomb. To think any American would turn secrets over was beyond belief. We still were recovering from WW2 and in the midst of the Korean war as best as I can say this instant. Do you people understand that the electric chair actually cooks the victim?

No i am not. I served in the Army during 62-64 but never been a cop.
If it counts for much, my oldest daughter spent time as a cop.

Your heroes in the Republican party financed the Bolsheviks thereby creating the Soviet state:

Thus, the Rosenbergs were victims of Republican capitalist treason.

LOL. Professor Sutton was a CONSERVATIVE.

While it is true that all too often the treasonous right wing creates fake news, conservative Sutton was a man of great integrity. I remember him very well and can attest to that.

I would not have cooked either of the Rosenbergs though. To put them to death, at least do not cook them.

The Rosenbergs were and still are the darlings of the Democrats. That is why I said fake news.

"Deal" is a codeword for "be an apologists for traitorous spies who deserved to be executed because of the lives that were lost due to them" isn't it?

I do know that. Democrats loved burning The people at Waco and gunning down a woman at Ruby Ridge. I expected them to love what McVeigh did.
