Russia seizes American property in Moscow and cuts US diplomatic staff in retaliation to fresh sanctions

Embassy staff must leave the country by 1 September

Russia has ordered America to cut the number of diplomatic staff it has in the country and has seized a dacha compound and warehouse used by US officials in retaliation for new sanctions against Moscow.

Embassy staff must leave the country by 1 September, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The number of American diplomats will fall to 455 under the plan, the Foreign Ministry added.

Finally... Was it really this hard to go with the Eurasian plan when Zakharova said so? Russia lost time, and credibility when Putin blocked her. Thanks god our boys working hard too... Let's go Russia!

I don't think you understand what's going on.
I doubt you have a clue about what has just happened.
And I'm not sure if you have a clear picture of what's up.

Try some Zaxbys sauce on chicken fingers. It helps focus.

    Thanks...

    Regards;

Have to show that we care eventually. Maybe we'll get some demonstrative direct line between Kremlin and Washington. A Red iPhone or something.

Have to compensate lack of ACTUAL diplomats now somehow. If only somebody didn't expelled OUR diplimats or actually allowed them to return or be replaced... If only somebody had value for diplomacy and peace over the dumb show offs.

Do not worry so much, 455 diplomats are enough for the normal work of a normal embassy. There will be just less spies.

Russian President Vladimir Putin responded to sanctions Friday by ordering the U.S. to cut the number of diplomatic staff in the country by September and seizing two American diplomatic properties.

The retaliation comes one day after the Senate approved sweeping new sanctions against Russia, which still need to be signed by President Trump. As Fox News reports, however, this is not a guarantee as the legislation “bars Trump from easing or waiving the penalties on Russia unless Congress agrees. The economic sanctions also targeted Iran and North Korea.

The number of staff is to be reduced to 455, Russia said, which is the same amount of Russian diplomats currently in the U.S. ....snip~

Which btw.....Trump has said he will sign the sanctions bill.

It's not a retaliation for the sanctions, it's retaliation for the two mansions that Obama confiscated... with the excuse of hacking into the DNC...which as we know has never been proven. The mansions belonged to the Russian embassy, and taking them went against all international law and convention... but then again, Washington has always considered itself a law unto itself.

The return of the mansions was being negotiated, but instead of returning them and apologizing, Washington asked for certain concessions. It was pure blackmail, so there was no way Russia would agree to it. I have to laugh, because the warehouse Russia confiscated from the American embassy, was probably packed with propaganda paraphernalia and bribery and black mailing junk that Washington planned to use to influence the Russian elections. I can just picture the freak outs in Washington over it.

As for the American staff, Putin brought it down to the same level of personnel as the Russian embassy has in the US. Unlike the American actions which have always been aggressive and provocative, all of the actions by Russia have been a response to them, and never went above them in veracity.

As for the sanctions, since they are attacking the Russian economy, the retaliation will no doubt be an attack on ours. We might never find out though what it is... The economic retaliations have always been kept secret.

Eventually Putins games will be faced with a strong and competent U.S President and government. My hope is that when that happens this country simply eliminates all ties to Russia, stops any economic or trade activity, tells American citizens to get out before stating any left are on their own, bans all travel back and forth, and creates a large embassy across the border stating if Russia has question they can drop in.
Pretty much all monitoring is electronic or satellite anyway.

A shame we don't have a serious Russia foreign policy. Anyone know where we can find one?

Well, hopefully we can find it in the future, if we'll stop repeating same Cold War scenario over and over and over again. And without the stupid symbolic plastic toys.

Lol, why would I worry, there's plenty of spies throughout the RF, not just in the particular US embassy, business as usual.

You're forgetting one thing, the way the situation is with the sanctions, I don't think the US is welcome in Europe. Seems like the Washington fools will have to put the border back to where it always was; the Atlantic ocean.

    Good bye 'Murica'![IMG]

To add to this. I hope the Russian secret service inspected the junk in the warehouse before the embassy had a chance to cover up their traces.

This could all have been simplified with a very small part of your commentary.

Well, to be fair - the more USA will meddle in affairs between EU and RF the less this meddling will be approved. So, this time she is somewhat correct.

Ban all travel to Russia ?

I remember on my first passport it listed numerous countries that American citizens were banned from traveling too. The USSR, Cuba, North Korea, North Vietnam, etc. etc.

Still didn't prevent Bill Clinton from traveling to Moscow while in collusion with the Kremlin back in 1969 or Democrats traveling to North Vietnam to aid and abet the enemy while American troops were still on the battlefield.

A total travel ban would actually play into Putin's hands. He could cut off all contact the average Russian would have with western culture and blame it on us.

I would hate to see Russians go back to being fed one-sided stories about the west from the Kremlin.

One smart thing Nixon did in the 1970's was to lessen east/west tension which allowed some western culture into Russia. In the long run, it had the effect of making Russians suspect the lies their government was telling them.
