It was not an open ended fishing expedition. If they strayed off the Russian reservation, then this Special Counsel loses all legitimacy with the American public that are not the hardcore leftists.

The Trump Justice Department Special Counsel will need to scrutinize Trump's promised tax returns to determine whether there was a financial aspect to Putin's attempting to pervert the US democratic process to elect Trump president.

Diplomatically? He has made some real progress with Russia in Syrian, getting NATO to pay their own way, deals with Saudi Arabia, and stopping NAFTA and horrible trade deals with Asia.
