I'm a fiscal conservative and a social moderate. I detest racists and the alt-right. They don't represent me or anyone I know.

The man who drove that car into the crowd killed an innocent woman. He deserves no mercy and no support for his actions, but some people are desperately attempting to justify his actions. That's both sad and hideous.

 

I haven't excused, ignored or diminished their violence as you're trying to do.

I've also pointed out how your violent comrades on the Left are culpable for the deaths of two Virginia state troopers because they have proven that they cannot conduct themselves in a lawful, non-violent manner.

The question is as asinine as it is irrelevant. Violence is violence, whether it's lethal or not.

My question wasn't an answer to your charge. After you edited your post I dispensed with the comments in your opening paragraph.

I don't know that responding to the spurious charge that Trump is somehow sympathetic towards "white nationalists" (or whatever you want to call them) and running interference for them qualifies as a "pivot", but I agree that there are people who need to stop burying their hands in the sand and/or giving violent protesters a pass. For the record, I also agree that the only person responsible for Heyer's death was the man who killed her.

No, the pivot I'm talking about is his pivot from walking on eggshells around white nationalists to his explicit condemnation of white nationalists this morning.

Yes. On both sides. And not just when it comes to violent protesters; people are burying their heads in the sand regarding outright murderers, attempted murderers and terrorists. I've lost count of how many times I've provided a list of such people to right-wing forumites who argue that the left is violent and the right isn't, only for the heads to go in the sand again.

We need you to answer the question Mr. President, because we want to know that you do not condone people forcibly taking the property of other people at gunpoint. We just want to make this clear. Oh, and do you condemn rape? Please answer the question. Mr. President, do you condemn the use of chainsaws to dismember people? Don't avoid the question. People need to know your stance on this so that they don't have any doubts. Mr. President do you condemn kidnapping? Do you condemn tax evasion? Do you condemn jay-walking? Do you condemn talking too loud in the theater?"

Perhaps Trump-haters should just come up with a list of all the wrong things a person could possibly do, and Trump could just get it out there and say, "I don't like these things. Please don't do them. Please obey the law and love your fellow man" and then the government could get on with something other than putting everything the president says under a microscope and analyze how he said it, when he said it, the tone of his voice when he said it, his body language, etc. etc. etc.

But if you're desperate to hate the guy, then just go on and do so already. We get it. You don't like him. Now let government do something productive (rather than being perpetually wrapped up in navel gazing) and perhaps someday the democrat party and republican party will be able to stop behaving like the Capulets and the Montagues? After all, how did that turned out?
