Lyme disease can be a horrible chronic debilitating condition, resulting in mental impairment, difficulty concentrating, tiredness, and difficulty with bodily movements. Many suffer life-long symptoms and are never diagnosed. And even when the disease is suspected, it is often impossible to make a certain diagnosis. The only course of action is to give an intense 3 month long course of intravenous antibiotics and see if improvement results.

The effects of Lyme disease result from slight inflammation in the brain. This inflammation is so minor and diffuse that, in most cases, it cannot be visualized on an MRI. Spinal taps, which are a very painful and invasive test, can sometimes be used to detect the spiral-shaped bacteria, but this is hardly a reliable test either. Unfortunately, doctors have a tendency to dismiss what cannot be definitively diagnosed as just "stress" or "psychological".

It should be noted that the symptoms of Lyme disease can be confused with those who suffer unstable blood sugar level issues, another condition which can be difficult to diagnose in many cases. There is a symptom called "intention tremors", where when the patient tries to a certain part of their body it trembles and the movements are shaky. It can also be frustrating and mentally tiring for the patient to try to move, as it takes a lot of concentration for fine motor movements and balance.

Lyme Disease Bacteria Found in Ancient Amber
May 30, 2014 ~ Lyme disease - a painful, debilitating disease spread by ticks - was identified only about 40 years ago. But researchers say the bacteria that causes it dates back to the age of the dinosaurs... and those ancient roots may have made it difficult to treat.

First Tick Genome Map Could Chart Ways to Stop Parasite
March 23, 2016 — There are more than 900 species of ticks in the world, many of which carry serious diseases. In fact, ticks transmit a wider variety of pathogens than any other arthropod, causing thousands of human and animal deaths annually. But no one had thought to study them until about 10 years ago.
