Pourquoi pas? Je trouve que c'est une très bonne idée et meme la langue plus viable par cette topique. Okay, mods. I'm just joking. English>everything else.
We could speak French wine, although I rarely drink any. Not long ago we tried a Hungarian wine at the neighbors. Not bad, but a bit on the sweet side.
I know nothing about wine and I am just beginning to try some different...and inexpensive varieties. My favorite so far is a cheap Merlot. I have some white wines chilling and will try them later. Even if the wine is cheap I am having fun trying different varieties. I may try some more expensive wines later....but right now cheap wines will have to do.
I found a little-known secret: a brand of excellent red wines that are also very, very inexpensive.... "Two Vines". I'm drinking their Cabernet right now. Tantalizing bouquet and a smooth finish with just enough tannin. They make Shiraz, Merlot, and a Cabernet-Merlot blend. About $6 - 7 per bottle. For a white wine, I like a rich, fruity Riesling, particularly Willamette Valley Riesling. Crisp and refreshing.
I always stick to New Zealand, especially white. Normally Marlborough. The Ned is one of their best white wines.
Just wanted to share that I'm in love with pomegranate semi sweet wine especially the ones made from caucasian regions.
I'll second the Carlo Rossi recommendation. My favorites are the Paisano first, their Burgundy second. What I do when I buy a bottle is I'll drink maybe 15 - 20% of it, recap it and put in in a cool, dark place. When I come back to it in 7 - 10 days I think it's much improved. Maybe it had a chance to breathe a little bit?
Have you ever had a Müller-Thurgau. It is well worth trying. https://www.germanwines.de/knowledge/grape-varieties/white-grapes/mueller-thurgau/
It's called, "Port," wine (from Oporto, Portugal). I like it, too, though it is not good to complement food, in the way normal red wine can be. It can be used as a dessert wine, along with say, something chocolate. But it is mostly to be drunk for itself, either after dinner, or as an aperitif.
