I voted 'yes'. Might be a bit late and all(I've had some wonderful encounters with Tecoyah and Fugazi). But I'd love to have a debate to sharpen up for this upcoming election. Just dear god, I hope to avoid the abortion thing. My position there is unchanged, will never change as long as I live and I've outlined it plenty of times.

I am just wondering how the left is so bad when the only Amendment of the Constitution the conservative side cares about is the 2nd Amendment. It's okay to trample over our right to privacy with all the spying going on because of the Patriot Act, which I doubt the founding fathers would have agreed with.

Conservatives trample over freedom of religion. They try to stop gays from marrying based on their religious beliefs. It was set up so you could believe what you want and not have others religions impinge on your rights. The separation of church and state was made for a reason. Religion has no role in politics.

When it comes to socialism I don't believe in an absolute socialist government, but when the wealth distribution is so high and people are dirt poor and there are not enough jobs, someone has to take care of the problem. If everyone on social programs got kicked off tomorrow there are not jobs for the millions of people. It is a side effect of Capitalism. When there is excessive greed on one side there will be excessive poverty on the other side. Flat out.

Conservatives believe that abortion is wrong, but when a poor woman keeps her kid she gets accused of having one to get more welfare. What she might get around four hundred bucks instead of three fifty. Wow makes me want to have a bunch of kids. Welfare sucks and is a cycle and instead of helping these people have more respect for themselves and teach them to break the cycle we treat them like they are scum of the earth. Poor women probably beaten down by this world are the bad guy and the Kardashians are role models. It's sick.

After a poor woman gets off welfare and works at somewhere like McDonalds, conservatives don't believe that they should make enough to pay their bills. They should have gone to college and got a better job. When their car breaks down and they can't fix it and can no longer make it to work, they end up right back on welfare, and are welfare hags again. It is a cycle that is darn near impossible to break and no one looks at it or cares and wants to stop it. It is easier to call them lazy and feel superior to them.

There are problems with Liberals too. The politicians keep us fighting to separate us, when what we should be doing is finding a middle ground. The world isn't black and white.

I would be happy to debate anyone on preselected subjects of any type science from quantum processes to cosmology/astronomy. Religion is fair game too. My specially is apoplectic writings such as The Book of Revelation by John the Apostle. Many others ~

On a more serious note, it has finally occurred to me why PF cannot have one on one debates. PF can't keep its server up and running. I've lost posts that I've spent thought and time on preparing only to be unable to post them.

Yes, and I would like the challenge of objectively arguing the side that I oppose.

I think that I could do a decent job of debating something of an Atheist vs Theist topic......
    although frankly......
many Theists would not agree with my idea of a Creator......
who almost certainly evolved and learned over time.

    Can I use quotations?

I love structured debates in text. I don't care much about the structure or the judging process as long as the structure is consistent and fair to both contestants. I do like to negotiate the question or resolution, and whether it's a question or a resolution, with the opponent and prefer that the moderator/host stay out of that.

I'm down for a debate. I'd happily discuss ANY moral/ethical issue; eg abortion, free speech, being vegan (which I am), immigration, gay rights, etc etc. I just need to oppose your position, obviously.

I don't see any difference in these 'debates' over any other thread in the forum. A structured debate would have to have a moderator, to keep things topical, correct any fallacies or ad hom taking place, etc. And who will be this unbiased moderator? Does anyone wish to police the threads for the irrational hecklers & disrupters, so that a structured debate can take place?

I have tried for years, to have more structured, evidentiary based 'debates' in science & philosophy threads, but the always get hijacked by mockers & hecklers. So how can you have a thoughtful, civil, rational discussion, with shrieking & howling taking place within the thread?

When doing a lengthy post, it's good idea to use another editor, like Wordpad, and then cut and paste into the Forum.

Since they have upgraded, that hasn't been much of a problem thankfully. :) Probably still a good idea just in case though.
