Conservatives would have us think that, but their so-called freedom and respect for the Constitution (which they are pushing to change btw) are merely mantles they've adopted in recent decades. The core of conservatism is simply:

Conservatism must be propagated and pushed on all of America, at any cost.

Whereas progressivism is ultimately concerned with life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all, the root of conservatism is axiomatic and all-consuming. Conservative ideals, and only conservative ideals, must dominate our laws and culture -- facts, nuance, and morality be damned!

Obama bailed out GM. It was his way of protecting the union and gaining government control of an auto company. It was as close to full on socialism as he could get in this capitalist country.

 

Like most occupants of the White House, Obama was but a sock puppet. Yes, he had a silver tongue, but he still just did as he was told, including the bail out started on Bush's watch.
