There has been a slow but steady and measurable change in the American psyche. We have crept away from many human rights positions as a population and it seems to be Okay with many citizens. It now seems acceptable for Fox to rehire a known sexual deviant and for our own President to show prejudice toward non-whites blatantly and being himself an admitted ***** grabber (which probably made it okay for Fox).
I just wonder if I am seeing things that are not there or if this is real and no one really cares because it makes me angry.

Don't forget human rights also includes possession laws. Like from 1933 to 1974 the U.S. government made it illegal to own gold and people were put in prison, just because federal agents found some gold coins inside their property during a search. There's also the move towards the criminalization of information and data (a more complicated topic I don't have time to go into right now, basically broadly-worded laws are being interpreted by courts to cover information as well, it has been a slow creeping process over the years as endless new laws get passed).

There's a lot of overlap between human rights and civil liberties.

I'm not really sure how all that goes together. Are you saying America is losing its values and morals?
Maybe could it be because the population is less religious than its ever been? (Just consider that as a possibility)

Of course now that the far right is less religion and have less fear of a ending up in hell they feel more free to be bigots toward their fellow non white fellow citizens.

LOL no religion have never slow up bigots in fact they tend to use religion as a reason to attacks others be they Jews or Mormons and now of course Muslims.

Hell such people even gave Kennedy a hard time for daring to run for president while being a Catholic.

It is NO KIND of troll thread, it is a poll concerning observations. I well understand your concern however, as you show it anytime commentary you do not agree with occurs.

Then we have been being rewired for a long time, because things have been spiraling for many decades and for some things have never been alright as far has human rights or civil liberties. Though laws and moral/religious doctrines have and can keep people in check to a certain degree, we cannot use that as a reliable source of social security if our basic understanding of human rights is distorted by rationalizations in this country and the world as a whole. Passing laws to protect citizens has not stopped many kinds of abuses and exploitation because the very laws that are passed end up being window dressing and a covering for immoral and abusive behavior. The freeing of the slaves after the civil war didn't stop the exploitation of ex-slaves during the time of reconstruction and after. The Women's movement brought to light the need for equality and respect for women, but many of the things that were trying to be changed only changed to a certain degree. Look at the fact that we still have terrible problem with rape on college campuses, income inequality is still a problem and our culture still sells women as objects in advertising and many other forms of media.

We need to rewire our mindset about these issues and our actions should reflect those values. Laws and the Bible are not going to make us do the right thing if we don't truly believe and follow those values. We should do the right thing because we know in our hearts and minds that it is right, not because someone told us what to do it or forced us under the law to do it.

It is amusing and how they forget about Obama and Bill, they lowered the bar so much that now they think Trump is a new thing..

Well it's psychological lock down with leftists. They compartmentalize. Thus they really and genuinely do think that it (whatever it happens to be this time around) is NEVER wrong when a leftist does it. For them there is always an exception for every rule if a leftist is involved. They don't even see the hypocrisy in that mind set.

(they can't touch the message with a 10 foot poll)

I thought you were about to talk about 5G. :bounce:

Anyway, there is a correlation between population and freedom. The more the population grows, the less freedom there is. How do you maintain order otherwise?

There hasn't been much change in the psyche at all. It is just that the internet allows the airing of opinions that were suppressed by the MSM before. You are just seeing the reality of the American psyche for the first time.

And you are right; no one really cares that it makes you angry.

When Clinton worshipers claim Trump is a sex offender and it's a problem, it makes me smile. They don't realize how dumb they look.

Right wing radio and Fox have made Americans mean and nasty, despicable little trolls. That isn't in your imagination.

The character of this country has changed dramatically over the last 20 years. It is no longer a country that I can respect. If I had a flag I would use it as toilet paper.

20 years ago I was willing to die for my country.

The issues confronting us do not admit of easy remedies. Many who voted for Trump did so because they are conservative and resent what they see as mockery of our traditions, not because they approve of Trump personally. Others did so because they thought Clinton was a phony, preachy, grifter. If she had won, you could make the same case against the American psyche.
"How could we have voted for a woman who ....?"

I voted for Johnson because I had reservations about Trump (voting for Hillary was never an option -- I'd take Bernie first). Now that Trump is president, I see nothing good about trashing him and I despise the media and the celebrities who, safe on the sidelines in their segregated cheering section, make sport of him. Are you on the Left going to wail and gnash your teeth for 3 more years, or be good sports about losing?

You may not be old enough to know this, but leftist hatred of conservatives and the middle class was quite in evidence in the 60's and early 70's. Fox wasn't even on the drawing boards at the time.

At what point in American history were women's rights and racial equality a normal thing? It is in fact because those things were abnormal that we have been trying to change things. Your looking at this backwards. We are progressing not regressing. Go back 100 years and compare women's and minority rights and status to today.

Tecoyah, I think your question here is very timely. It is important and requiring of a good response in spite of what some posters may say.

Based on my own activist work and all the people I talk to, you are not imagining what isn't there, but it isn't true that people don't care. They see it and they have strong opinions for the most part, but due to the long, broad, and deep propaganda to which we have been subjected, people are divided by extensive confusion and the resulting lack of confidence on what to do about it. The propaganda is the cause of this confusion and its purpose is to disarm us of any clarity on what to do about it. So you are observing the intended effects of the propaganda. And trump is an expert at making it far worse, fast.

Every issue that we hear people object to and complain about has one ultimate, final, "bottom line" cause that produced the issue and maintains it. That cause always boils down to the economy: capitalism. And what the people need to see is that the effort must focus on popularizing the need for replacing capitalism while working to actually replace it now, today, in increments, and then while that is underway as the backdrop, to also work for reforms to address problems we see now in the context of the message being that our solutions will not last unless we also replace the economic system that causes the problem. We must address issues and work for reforms now, because people are suffering now. But history shows that all such efforts will ultimately be in vain unless the cause is eliminated. And this must become clear for the public, and then you will see action and interest and dedication to solving problems.

You're not wrong, but your view is selective. Bill Clinton made it OK to be a Presidential rapist and philanderer. Bill was grabbing P long before Trump was talking about it. So...the left won that battle. The pearl clutching social conservatives lost. So we have a new normal. And we have a new normal every time we have one of these issues.
