A man sits in a jail.
It has four walls, a big wooden door and a small open window high in the room beyond reach.

An old man is trapped inside.

He starts to think of escaping and starts digging below the the wooden door.

He keeps digging for 2 hours, then stops and thinks to himself that there is no other way.

After a minute of doing nothing, he has an idea and keeps digging.

    What did he think about?

This reminds me of a joke: Guy sitting on the adjacent bar stool to another guy; second guy looks a bit down-in-the-mouth; first guy notices this and asks why; second guy says ''It's just taken me 6 months to tunnel my way out of prison.' First guy - 'Well you're out now, so why so miserable?' Second guy - 'I was only in for a week!'

What is he digging with? How high is the open window? Could he get through it if he could get to it?.

I was going to say he thinks that he could pile the dirt that he is digging out up and get through the window. but then wouldn't it be easier to just go under the door like he's trying to?

Besides, these puzzles are supposed to be solvable with just the info presented, so I am at a loss right now..

Does the room have a ceiling? None is specified so possibly not, but then why would he keep digging or have started in the first place?

He piled the dirt high enough to reach the window.

    Yeah!
You and Aleksander Ulyanov, are both right?

Did you know the riddle or did you think about it?

    Similar riddle:

You are stranded in the rocky desert. You need water. There are tiny crevices in the rock where water has collected, but you have no straw to suck it out and you cannot dig through the rock to widen the crevices. The only 'tools' you have are the things typically found in the rocky desert. How do you get the water?

hint: ravens can (and do) get the water, but there are none nearby to show you how...
